Rob Scheps

Oregon native Rob Scheps began studying the tenor saxophone at age nine. He grew up on Long Island, New York. After having graduated high school at age sixteen, he enrolled in the New England Conservatory. He received a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies with Honors in performance in 1986. While living in the Boston area he led his own groups; most notably the True Colors Big Band. In 1988 he moved to New York, formed the Rob Scheps Core-tet and Bartokking Heads and established himself as a formidable force on the jazz scene.

Herschel McWilliams

Herschel McWiliams is a native of Kansas City. Growing up the son of musicians, he was introduced to many musical influences at an early age. He started learning piano at 8 years old and alto saxophone at 10 years old. Herschel has had the instruction of some of the most established musicians and educators in the Kansas City area such as Kerry Strayer, Doug Talley, Wayne Hawkins, Marlin Cooper, and Penny Snead and countless other influences.

Yosvany Terry

Born in Cuba, he received his earliest musical training from his father, Eladio "Don Pancho" Terry , violinist and Cuba's leading player of the Chekeré. His father was also known as the founder and director of the "Orquesta Maravillas de Florida," one of Cuba's most important charanga bands. Mr. Terry went on to receive his classical music training and graduated from both the prestigious National School of Art (ENA) and Amadeo Roldan Conservatory. Quinsin Nachoff

Born: December 21, 1973

Quinsin Nachoff is a composer and saxophonist who writes for ensembles of varying scale, often shaping the music around the specific performers who will play it. He is equally engaged in composition and improvisation, and frequently performs in the music he leads. Based in Brooklyn and originally from Toronto, his recent work includes long-term collaborations with scientists and filmmakers, alongside concert and chamber projects.

Among Nachoff’s projects is the JUNO-nominated group Flux, featuring alto saxophonist David Binney, pianist Matt Mitchell, and drummers Kenny Wollesen and Nate Wood. His double album Path of Totality (Whirlwind Recordings, 2019) received a 4.5-star review in DownBeat. He has written concert works for classical ensembles, including Winding Tessellations, a saxophone concerto commissioned by Turning Point Ensemble. His album Pivotal Arc (Whirlwind Recordings, 2020) comprises a violin concerto written for Grammy-winning violinist Nathalie Bonin, a string quartet for Montréal’s Molinari String Quartet, and a large ensemble piece.

Will Connell

Will Connell received a CAPS grant for orchestral composition in 1980 and has recorded with Chico Hamilton, various William Parker ensembles, including the Little Huey Creative Music Orchestra, the Walter Thompson Big Band, the composer's collective Commitment, and Steve Swell. He has performed and/or toured with Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Horace Tapscott, Sam Rivers' Winds of Manhattan, David Murray Big Band, Cecil Taylor, Anthony Braxton, Pharoah Sanders, Butch Morris, Roy Campbell, Billy Bang, Tito Nieves, Elton John, Ryan Adams, and many others. As a copyist/arranger he has worked for musicians ranging from Ornette Coleman, Julius Hemphill, Matthew Shipp to Stevie Wonder, Roberta Flack, Michael Jackson, Simon and Garfunkel

Ferdinand Povel
