Randy Hunter

Born: April 25, 1962

Thanks for dropping in. Let me fill you in on what I've got happening. I'm a full-time music teacher and performer in the Atlanta area...and I've been doing it for a long time. In addition to my private studio, I am also Artist Affiliate in Jazz Saxophone at Emory University. About five years ago I started writing educational jazz books. Using my personal students as guinea pigs, and I keep about 70 of them at any given time, I began by writing etude and duet books. It's escalated from there to include a jazz combo series designed for use in schools, workshops, or even private studios as a small group or individual improv method. Ian Willson

Ian studied sax with jazz legend, Joe Henderson and has played in various bands since 1975, including Ed Kelly, Frank Martin, Bobby Freeman, Brenda Vaughn, Napata Mero, Gwen Majors, Stephanie Teel, the Toasters, Prime Time, Counterpoint, Pure Pleasure, Midnight Taxi, Shake, Little Sister, Silver Moon Orchestra, Lee Waterman Trio, Pride&Joy, and the Hollywood Swingers.

Rob Lockart

Robert Lockart received a BM in music theory with a performers certificate and MM from Eastman School in Jazz Studies, as well as attending the Banff School with Dave Holland, Kenny Wheeler, and David Liebman. As a performer he has played with the Woody Herman Orchestra, Tom Harrell Big Band, Doc Severinsen Big Band, Joe LaBarbera Quintet, Kurt Elling, in addition to single performances with Dave Liebman, Mel Lewis, Hank Jones, Clark Terry, and as a soloist with the Houston Symphony Orchestra. His teachers include Dave Liebman, Al Regni, Micheal Nascimben, Joe Allard, Ramon Ricker, and Mardele Marcellus. Gilad Atzmon

Gilad Atzmon was born in Israel in 1963 and had his musical training at the Rubin Academy of Music, Jerusalem (Composition and Jazz) A multi-instrumentalist he plays Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Baritone Saxes, Clarinet, Sol, Zurna and Flutes. Until 1994 he was a producer-arranger for various Israeli Dance & Rock Projects, performing in Europe and the USA playing ethnic Jewish soul music. Highly involved in the Israeli musical scene he recorded for 'Ofra Haza' , Yeuda Poliker and many others. He also toured with Memphis Slim and supporting many international jazz names such as Jack De Johnette, Michel Petrucciani, Richie Byrach and many others. Coming to the UK in 1994, Atzmon recovered an interest in playing the music of the Middle East, North Africa and Eastern Europe that had been in the back of his mind for years

John Newmann

Born: September 3, 1961

My career started in a Wisconsin grade school with a wonderful musical mentor, Sister Romilda Simon. She watched over me as a mentor and pushed me musically as a classical pianist. Eugene Johnson taught me woodwinds and shaped my tonal concept for the horns. Dan Petersen helped shape our showmanship. I was a featured performer in Kids from Wisconsin and went on to become an instrumentalist in the Marine Corps Field Bands, playing clarinet, sax, and keyboards. Following my military career, I worked at developing my own style and kept playing in clubs across the United States. My current emphasis is performing original material.

Alain Bradette

Born: February 5, 1965

Saxophonist, Alain Bradette, was born and raised in Montreal, Canada. An accomplished performer, composer, arranger, producer and multi-instrumentalist, he has performed in Canada, Europe and the United States. In 2004, two of Alain’s compositions were recognized by the prestigious Great American Song Contest: Montreal-Marseille took first place honors and A Bird’s Dream ranked second in the top five Outstanding Compositions in the jazz category. He has been both a sideman and a featured musician on several recordings and produced singer-songwriter, Serina Jung’s, second album Sparrows. Other musical collaborations include performances with The International Montreal Jazz Festival Orchestra with guest musicians Adam Makowicz and George Mraz, the Vic Vogel Big Band, Tiger Okoshi, at a Timucua Art Foundation event, and Quebec’s star, Pierre Flynn. The youngest of eight children, Alain was exposed to many different styles of music, at an early age, from his siblings as well as his father who had an extensive collection of vinyls

Mario Rivera

Born: July 22, 1939

Mario Rivera was a gifted musician, composer and arranger that played 13 instruments, which included piano, vibraphone, drums, trumpet, timbales, congas, flute, and piccolo. But Rivera was known for how he kissed and caressed the tenor, soprano, alto and baritone saxophones. He could play all of the family of saxophones on a virtuosic level as a soloist and section player and was one of the very few saxophonists who also mastered of the flute in the Cuban charanga style. Unlike most musicians, Rivera played all these instruments at an exceedingly high level of musicianship Mario was born July 22, 1939 in Santo Domingo, The Dominican Republic

Ken Jacobs

Born: March 20, 1944

Born in Texas City and grew up in Houston, graduating from the Univ. of Texas, 1966. Studied musical performance, Berklee School of Music, 1973-5 and studies privately with Andy McGhee, John Handy, and Noel Jewkes. Moved to New Orleans in 1980 and lived there until August 2005 (Katrina). Was well-known band leader and sideman there. Played live with the O'Jays, the Temptations, Frankie Ford, the Dells, Willie Nelson, Earl King, and many more. Now residing in San Rafael, CA.

David Valdez

Born: July 19, 1967

Born 1976 in San Francisco, David grew up in Santa Cruz, California. David picked up the saxophone at the age of 8 years old. He attended Berklee College of music on full scholarship, where he studied with George Garzone and saxophone guru Joseph Viola (who also taught Michael Brecker, Brandford Marsalis and Charlie Mariano). While in Boston he worked with John Medeski, the Either Orchestra, Dave Holland, Clark Terry, Dominique Eade, Mick Goodrick, Danilo Perez, Bob Moses, The Four Tops, Ken Schaphorst, Jim Black, Matt Wilson. After finishing his studies David moved back to the West Coast, where for several years he led bands in the Bay Area featuring such notable players as Larry Grenadier, Eddie Marshal, Jeff Ballard, Kenny Brooks, Kenny Wollesen, Larry Scheider, Dred Scott, Charlie Hunter, Vince Wallace, Liberty Ellman, Dmitri Metheny, Mark Levine and Scott Amendola. Eventually heading the call of New York City, Valdez moved east in the mid-nineties

Tineke Postma

Born: August 31, 1978

Tineke Postma is an internationally acknowleged activejazzsaxophonist. During her college years at theConservatory of Amsterdam, she received two scolarshipsto study at the Manhattan School for Music in New York,where she was taught by Dick Oatts, David Liebman andChris Potter. In 2003, Tineke gratuaded with Honors at theConservatory of Amsterdam, where she has been teachingsince 2005. Tineke plays energetic, modern jazz and isinspired by Wayne Shorter, Cannonball Adderly, JohnColtrane, Miles Davis and other great legends, withoutignoring her own creativity. The British Newspaper “TheEvening Standard” called Tineke in 2009 “One of theleading ladies in Jazz”!
