B.J. Jansen, born January 3rd 1981 in Cincinnati, has established himself as a charismatic and dynamic performer, composer, bandleader and educator on and off the stage. B.J.’s journey in music began at age 10 when his father bought him an Alto Saxophone and gave him recordings of Gerry Mulligan and Charlie Parker. He later found his true voice on the Baritone Saxophone while performing in various college ensembles. Andrew Hadro

Andrew Hadro [Hey-dro] Andrew Hadro is a professional musician, composer, and bandleader in Brooklyn, New York. Hadro’s primary instrument is baritone saxophone, though he also performs on bass clarinet, Bb clarinet, and flute, and is one of the only working musicians in New York City to play the bass saxophone. Recently, Hadro has been presenting compositions by current living composers through his ongoing project "For Us, The Living," An effort to honor tradition through innovation. Hadro has performed and recorded two albums for this series, with the most recent released in April 2018. Shirantha Beddage

Two-time JUNO-nominated musician Shirantha Beddage (“Shurr-ANN-tha BED-da-gay”) is a baritone saxophonist, composer and educator from Toronto, Canada. His original music combines hard bop and modern jazz to create a sound that is both accessible and sophisticated. He has released three critically-acclaimed albums as a leader: Roots and Branches, Identity (2013 JUNO nominee) and Momentum (2017 JUNO nominee). As a sideman, he has been featured on recordings with the Order of Canada Band, Suzie Arioli, Laila Biali, Nancy Walker, Mike Downes and many others. His compositional skills have won him accolades such as the Montreal Jazz Festival Galaxie Rising Star Award, recognitions at the Canadian Songwriting Competition, and placements in the Emmy-winning TV series “Fargo”. Shirantha currently serves as a full-time professor in the Humber College Bachelor of Music program, where he also hosts the “Staff Lounge” Teaching and Learning podcast

After attending the Berklee College of Music, she began an education of another kind — making a living as a musician. Her career has included anchoring the sax section in the Diva Big Band for 7 yrs, freelancing in New York doing EVERY imaginable kind of gig (available on request!), recording 6 CDs with the brilliant, quirky composer/pianist Joel Forrester and their band "People Like Us", as well as two CDs as leader on Koch Jazz, ("Swing Low" and "Movin' On" now re-released on DalyBread Records) and releases of her own including "Heaven Help Us All", "Rah! Rah! Rahsaan!" and "Mary Joyce Project: Nothing To Lose", also on Dalybread Records. Also "2 Sisters, Inc - Scaribari" with fellow baritonist Dave Sewelson and bassist Dave Hofstra. She has performed on numerous CDs, film scores, jingles, and of course in many festivals and venues.

Thom Keith was born in Rochester, New Hampshire during the first Nixon administration. He grew up in a home filled with the sounds of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Coltrane, Walt Dickerson, Air, and David Murray courtesy of a very musical family. Marc Rosen
Rosen's first professional gig was at the age of 14.playing with a variety band called "Sweet Thunder". They played all over the Midwest for several years. Rosen went to University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign as a music major on the baritone saxophone and played with several of the jazz groups there. Over the years Rosen appeared with or opened for such greats as Urbie Green, Don Ellis, Bobby Rosengarden and Joe Williams. Rosen played baritone sax, clarinet, and soprano sax with Big Time Operator, a very successful, 10 piece swing band which played often in Las Vegas, including gigs at the Desert Inn and monthly appearances at the Hard Rock Cafe Casino, as well as regular appearances at the Derby, the Viper Room, the Hollywood Athletic Club and other high profile venues in Los Angeles and San Francisco

Andreas Andersson

Born in 1975 in Kalix. Educated at the Skurups Folkhögskola and at the Music Conservatory in Malmö, Sweden. Resident in Malmö. Andreas has with his powerful sound and lyrical playing marked himself as one of Sweden's most personal baritone saxophonists. He is active within the Swedish free improv scene, for instance in Perch. Andreas is one of the leading figures in Plunge and Malmö Saxophone Quartet and has quite recently formed a trio with saxophonist Marcelo Gabard Pazos and drummer Peter Nilsson. He also has a duo with pianist Ola Hedén and has performed with Bobo Stenson, Marilyn Mazur, Tomas Jäderlund, Henrik Frisk, Sten Sandell, Dror Feiler, Hans Olding, Herman Müntzing etc. Andreas has composed music for improvising big band, amateur theatre, documentary movies, and numerous tunes for smaller ensembles. During the recent years he has been active in FRIM SYD, organizing concerts of improvised music in Malmö. Andreas has also been teaching instrumentalists and ensembles at the music schools in Skurup and Svalöv and at the Music Conservatory in Malmö. Alongside this, he has recently finished a bachelor degree in theology and has dedicated himself to the task of, with others, expressing what "church" is/means in contemporary society. Jack Nimitz

Although he has had a long and productive career, Jack Nimitz has long been underrated, not getting a chance to lead his own record session until a 1995 set for Fresh Sound, when he was already 65.
He started on the clarinet when he was 12, switching to alto two years later, and gigging locally at 15. In 1949, Nimitz started specializing on the baritone and soon was playing with such territory bands as those led by Bob Astor, Johnny Bothwell, and Daryl Harpa.
From 1952-1953, he was back in Washington, D.C., before touring with Woody Herman (October 1953 to September 1955) and a few months with Stan Kenton (1955-1956)

Charles Tyler

Charles Tyler was a standout baritone sax player who excelled in avant garde and free improvisation. He is best known for his work with tenor man Albert Ayler. Tyler started out on piano, and then went from alto sax to baritone. He had known Ayler from his teen age years, and finally got to join up with him in New York in 1965, where he was featured on the “Bells,” and “Spirits Rejoice,” sessions. He also left quite a recorded legacy on his own as leader notably “Eastern Man Alone,’ and “Second Album,” both for the ESP label in 1967.
