Azmi Hairudin

One of the most diverse, in demand sax players in all of contemporary jazz, Azmi Hairudin finds pure joy at the heart of his increasingly fast-paced touring schedule by reminding himself, every time he gets on stage, that he’s there to do one thing: Play! Azmi first expressed his interest in music on the drums, switching to saxophone in Jr. High School when he was "impressed" with the shininess of the sax. Azmi began playing local functions and clubs while still in high school. Willie Mack

Born: December 21, 1941

Willie Mack is a saxophonist and flutist who has played throughout Europe as part of La Mama's European company, and with his own group, the Willie Mack Quartet. He is Chairman of the New Amsterdam Musical Association (NAMA), the oldest association of professional black musicians, organized as a response to segregationist attitudes towards the musicians, and the music that they were producing. NAMA is now a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion music education and performance in all forms. It aims to draw together trained musicians for education, concerts, performances, community jam sessions, and to expand understanding and support of musicians and their art

Dr Sax

"Music to move you, body and soul". Inspired by the energy, passion and free expression found in the writing of Jack Kerouac, Dr Sax borrowed the name from one of his books and set about creating their own unique blend of Jazz, Rock, Soul & Latin. “You guys rock!” was the review posted after the band performance at the Glastonbury Festival 2002 and six years and two albums later the band are still rocking, now with guitarist Cliff Moore (younger brother of blues legend Gary Moore) playing in the band. For the 2009 4th album, 'Take It to the Bridge' there are new singers too: Steve Williams, who has been playing keyboards with the band from the beginning (he also plays keys for Jamelia) delivers two awesome vocal performances as does new guest vocalist 18 year old Sarah Davies who has taken over the chair from Beth Rowley, who herself, was last seen singing with Bert Bacharach at the BBC Proms(!)

Michael John Kerley

Born: January 3, 1951

I started playing clarinet at the age of 15 and then advanced on to play the alto/tennor/barritone sax's at the royal millitary school of music when I was in the army. I mostly played millitary music and some big jazz band stuff which I really enjoyed the most. I then left the army in 1978 after 12 years and did not play again for about thirty years but I now am getting my lip back in to start to play jazz again but at the moment just on the alto sax.

Lars Haake

Born: October 24, 1972

Born in Paderborn, Germany Lars picked up the piano at age 4 and the alto sax at age 10. After a few lessons with Martin Casey Lars was fortunate to study for three years with tenor sax great Tony Lakatos and soon after to join the local big band conducted by Reiner Franzke. Until high school graduation he studied with Melvin Philips. He also picked up the soprano sax and the flute with Mel. During his political science studies in Munich Lars attended clinics with Wayne Darling, Vincent Herring, Michael Brecker and programs organized by Berklee College of Music with Gary Burton, Bill Pierce, Joe Lovano, Bill Frisell and Paul Motian. In 1998 after completing his masters Lars entered Berklee's program in Boston

Lelei Gracindo

Born: July 27, 1974

Lelei Gracindo was born in Petrópolis R.J. Brazil in 1974. His career began in church like most other great musicians. It wasn't long after, that his slick and uncompromising tasteful saxophone style was noticed by some of Rio de Janeiro prominant acts. Lelei has been blessed to be able to record and share the stage with artist such as the late great Ed Motta, Sandra de Sá, Moska, Milton Nascimento, Flavio Venturini, Cidade Negra, Djavan, just to name a few. Most artist would agree that Lelei melodic lines leaves a memorable impression on a composition.

Chuck Langford

Charles Langford has been writing music since his teenage years. This Springfield, Massachusetts jazz man does it all,tenor, alto, soprano sax, clarinet and flute. Mr. Langford came to the Northeast United States after attending the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and the New School for Social Research in New York City. He studied composition and teaching with Billy Harper, Donald Byrd, and Barry Harris, among others. Prior to that, Mr. Langford studied with Archie Shepp and Yusef Latef. Since then, Charles Langford has become one of the Boston area's top A-list players. He's played with artists ranging from The Toni Lynn Washington Blues Band to The Temptations and Mighty Sam McClain

Justin Wood

Born: November 18, 1975

Alto saxophonist and flautist Justin Wood began playing saxophone in fifth grade growing up in rural Northern Maine. During high school, he co-led a jazz trio with trombonist Philip Yaeger and brother Tyler Wood on piano, and played gigs ranging from local restaurants to agricultural conventions. After attending Harvard University, Justin moved to New York in 1999 to work as a union organizer and explore the city's music scene. He began performing in New York in 2001, and has performed around the city with diverse musical groups in venues including Birdland, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, NJ Performing Arts Center, the Knitting Factory, and the Garage

Nick Mazzarella

Born: July 15, 1984

With “an individual tone sounding much older than his years, and a penchant for rugged melodies” (JazzTimes), alto saxophonist Nick Mazzarella is one of the critical figures of Chicago's creative music vanguard. Over the past two decades, he has made an aesthetically unique contribution grounded in rigorous craftsmanship to the city’s historic culture of jazz and improvised music. He “is one of the most versatile musicians on the scene, equally adept at riding a stout groove, delineating a potent melody, or generating powerful free improvisations; [through the] lyricism that lies at the heart of Mazzarella's playing, even at his most bracing moments, there is a pathway into an emotional register which makes his music consistently compelling” (All About Jazz). Guided by the fundamental principle that music is a self-contained medium, his improvisations, compositions, and approach to the saxophone comprise a unified and “uncompromising vision” presented “with grace and precision” (Corbett vs. Dempsey) in which meaning is conveyed by coherent structure and immediate expression.

Dario Dolci

Born: August 30, 1957

I'm an advanced student from Buenos Aires. I play soprano, alto and tenor sax but my first sax is the alto. I have studied with teachers from my country during 10 years and workshops with international teachers: David Liebman, Michael Brecker, and Miguel Villafruela.
