Santiago Leibson

Born:

Santiago Leibson is a Brooklyn based, Argentinian born jazz pianist and composer. His music is situated in the frontier of jazz, improvised music, classical and contemporary music. As a bandleader, he has released four records: Amon (2014), Pendular (2015), Out of Orden (2016) and Episodes (2018). JazzTrail says about his last release: “Episodes is a swinging album with abundant evocations of past grandeur. Thence, the trio of performers lay bare their solid command of time and space to create new narratives”. As an active member of the NY music scene, he has worked with artists such as Tony Malaby, Guillermo Klein, Michael Attias, Francisco Mela, Sean Conly, Gerald Cleaver, Matt Pavolka, Mark Ferber, Oscar Noriega, Drew Gress, Billy Drummond, Jeff Hirshfield, Michael Formanek, Massa Kamaguchi and Cameron Brown. In 2019 Santiago made his Carnegie Hall debut playing a solo concert of original and classical compositions at the prestigious series “Sophia Rossoff Presents” organized by the Abby Whiteside Foundation

Fredrik Nordstrom, Jeff Albert & Charles Lloyd

Read "Fredrik Nordstrom, Jeff Albert & Charles Lloyd" reviewed by Maurice Hogue

There's much “hat-tipping in respect" by current musicians to their influences in this episode. Saxophonists Miguel Zenon, Charles Lloyd and Sweden's Fredrik Nordstrom are in an Ornette mood on their albums, while the Oles Brothers from Poland recognize the iconic Polish trumpeter Andrzej Przybielski on a recording of a rediscovered session. British avant-garde quartet featuring Paul ...

Stephen Gauci / Santiago Leibson / Shawn Lovato / Colin Hinton: Live at Scholes Street Studio

Read "Live at Scholes Street Studio" reviewed by John Sharpe

When tenor saxophonist Stephen Gauci was offered a set at Brooklyn's Scholes Street Studio performance space in December 2019 he leapt at the chance. At short notice he pulled together three former duet partners in the classic jazz quartet formation, though they had never previously performed as a single unit. So this is both the group's ...

Michael Sarian: New Aurora

Read "New Aurora" reviewed by Jerome Wilson

Trumpeter Michael Sarian leads two large-sized groups, The Chabones and The Big Chabones, that utilize multiple horns and electronic sounds in high energy arrangements. This quartet recording is a different story. Sarian is the lone horn here, playing trumpet on the first track and flugelhorn on the rest, while the music itself is strictly acoustic. Much ...

All About Jazz needs your support

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded albums and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, limited reopenings and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary step that will help musicians and venues now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the sticky footer ad). Thank you!
