Sam Sherry

Born:

Sam was born and raised in West Hartford, Connecticut and graduated from Hall High School. As a youth he was fortunate to study with Leland Tolo and to participate in several master-classes with Gary Karr. Sam also began traveling to New York City to study jazz playing with Michael Moore, a relationship which continued over the course of five years.

Sam attended the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston from 1979 through 1981 as a Jazz Studies major and also joined the NEC Symphony Orchestra. At NEC, he studied extensively with Jaki Byard and with Jimmy Guiffre, George Russell, Joe Maneri and Tom McKinley.
