Sharp Radway

Sharp Radway is a pianist/composer/arranger/author who is a native of Hartford, Connecticut and currently resides in Brooklyn, New York. He is a self-taught pianist whose roots can be found in the church. As a jazz pianist he has played throughout the country and abroad. Among the recording artists whom he has worked and/or recorded with are Michael Carvin, Yusef Lateef, Bob Cunningham, Benny Powell, Bucky Pizzarelli, James Spalding, Benny Golson, Paul West, Rene McLean, Curtis Fuller, Red Holloway, Dick Griffin, Nicolas Payton, Diane Schuur, Carla Cook, Kevin Mahogany, Candido, Bill Saxton, Mickey Bass, Wycliffe Gordon, Russell Gunn, Vincent Herring, Fred Wesley, Andy McLoud, Ben Dixon, Ted Curson, Duane Eubanks, Joe Lee Wilson, Javon Jackson, Calvin Hill, Slide Hampton, Steve Turre, Frank Lacy, Jesse Davis, Hakiim Jami, Kiane Zawadi, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, Fred Wesley, Greg Bandy, Greg Tardy, and Winard Harper to name a few. Ernie Edwards

Paying tribute to a great musician is what this project is about. Edwards has been blind his entire life. One of his favorite artists is Erroll Garner. For years he listened and learned the style that made Erroll famous hoping one day to be able to play like him. Finally after connecting with two great talents, Ernie was able to pull together a tribute to Garner. The Ernie Edwards Trio, featuring Ernie Edwards on piano. Jacob Webb on bass and Nathan Webb on drums, released their first recording dedicated to the late Erroll Garner. “One Good Turn” was recorded live at the Riverview Studios in Bordentown, NJ in April of 2010. The selections were all performed in the style of Garner including an original written by Edwards and dedicated to Garner

Alister Spence

Born:

Alister is recognized as one of Australia’s most original, distinctive contemporary jazz pianists/composers. With a performing and composing career spanning more than 25 years, his wide-ranging talents have led him to perform with and compose for some of the world’s most respected artists in the areas of contemporary music, improvisation, film and theatre. In recent years he has devoted his energy to writing and performing with his trio, The Alister Spence Trio with Lloyd Swanton (the Necks) on double bass and Toby Hall (formerly with pianist, Mike Nock) drums and glockenspiel. This celebrated group has recorded six CDs (Rufus Records and Alister Spence Music [ASM]) and has a growing international reputation. Their most recent CD, Not Everything But Enough (ASM005, 2017) was listed in Top 10 Jazz Releases 2017, Music Magazine Japan and "Honorary Mention Best of 2017" in New York City Jazz Record

Ruslan Sirota

Born:

Ruslan Sirota (born November 4, 1980) is a Grammy Award winning pianist, keyboardist, composer and producer. Ruslan was born in Uman, Ukraine to a Jewish family on November 4, 1980. His father, Yefim, who was an active local guitarist, had introduced him to music at an early age. Picking up guitar around the age of four, Ruslan had transitioned to piano around the age of seven. In 1990, his family moved to Israel, where he continued to study piano at the Bat-Yam music school. At approximately 14, Ruslan discovered jazz, instantly showing imminent interest. By the age of 16, he was the "wunderkind" keyboardist for the then- popular Israeli jazz fusion band, "Confusion"

Nikolaj Hess

Danish piano/ keyboard player, composer, producer, arranger and educator. NH won the gold prize in "Berlingske Tidendes" competition of non-classical music in Copenhagen; won the category best European jazz piano player under 25 in the RAI competition in Rome and was a finalist in Leverkusener Jazztages "European Young Artist" competition in Germany. Having graduated from Rhythmic Conservatory at 22, he was the first to get topgrade 13 for his concert performance in piano, his major subject. He later studied in the US with Richie Beirach, Danilo Perez and Gary Dial. He also studied in West Africa with master drummer Odartey and at Legon University in Accra, Ghana. Currently living in Los Angeles, Amy K. Bormet is an in-demand pianist, vocalist, and composer. The quintet from her debut album, Striking, was featured as part of the Mary Lou Williams Jazz Festival at the Kennedy Center. As an advocate for women in music, Amy created the Washington Women in Jazz Festival in 2011 and continues to serve as executive director. Jean-Marie Machado

Of Portuguese and Italian origins, Jean-Marie Machado was born in 1961 in Tangiers, Morocco. He studied classical and contemporary music with famous French concert pianist Catherine Collard and, at the same time, musical theory (harmony, counterpoint, fugues). Alternating with his classical training, he became increasingly involved in composition and improvisation.

He has been recognized in the mid-eighties as one of the most talented French jazzmen thanks to the success of the Trio Machado. He recorded several albums for the famous Label Bleu. Also very appreciated as a composer, he has worked with classical and contemporary ensembles and led several original groups such as "Vibracordes" >> (with guest Nana Vasconcelos) or "French Piano Trio" with Martial Solal

It picked her up before she could even talk and drove her at the age of four to get out from behind the pew of her Charleston church and share her songs with the congregation. Called a "fixture in the Central Valley" (NPR), Jay Smith has had a wide variety of talent flow through his band. From jazz fusion to pop, the band has channeled a wide spectrum of musical genres to stay working and relevant. He is an Alum of California State University Bakersfield and Fresno City College where he earned his Bachelors of Arts and Associates of Arts Degree. He has opened up for groups and musicians as Carl Saunders, Poncho Sanchez, Jeff Coffin, Allan Holdsworth, Malo, Ozomatli, Clayton Cameron, and worked with Kelulu, Mento Buru, The Fresno Philharmonic, Andre Bush, Mike Dana, Velorio, and Patrick Contreras to name a few. His current projects include Mento Buru which was voted best band of 2018 by Bakersfield Magazine and The Jay Smith Trio/Group which features a variety of players including Cesareo Garasa, Paul Perez, Jay Jay Hicks, Fernando Montoya, Steve Eisen, and Patrick Contreras to name a few. The band's first album, Unashamed Portrayal, (available on iTunes and 30 other retailers) features Grammy Nominated Guitarist Andre Bush, Jay Jay Hicks, Saxophonist Chris Nguyen, trombonist Joe Vazquez, trumpeter Mark Manda, Fernando Montoya on acoustic and electric bass, Jonathan Weinmann on drums, and Jorge Nunzio Urbina on percussion

Peter Hum

Born and raised in Ottawa, Canada, Peter is a mainstay of the city's jazz community. He has just released his debut recording, A Boy's Journey, thanks to a grant from the City of Ottawa. Previously, his compositions and performances at the Montreal and Ottawa International Jazz Festivals have been broadcast by the CBC and Radio-Canada.

Since the mid-1990s, the self-taught pianist has led or co-led groups that have included musicians Rob Frayne, John Geggie, Petr Cancura, Nathan Cepelinski, Vince Rimbach, Kenji Omae, Mike Essoudry, Nick Fraser and Justin Haynes.

In Ottawa, he has accompanied visiting jazz musicians including Pat LaBarbera, Mike Rud, Andre Leroux, Kelly Jefferson and Johnny Scott.

In Montreal during the last half of the 1980s, Peter performed weekly at the first incarnation of the city's famed Upstairs jazz club
