Woody Shaw: The Complete Muse Sessions

Read "Woody Shaw: The Complete Muse Sessions" reviewed by John Kelman

The past couple years have been banner ones for reviving the legacy of Woody Shaw, a trumpeter and composer who--emerging in the early '60s on albums by extant jazz stars like Eric Dolphy, Andrew Hill, McCoy Tyner and Horace Silver, and contributing to on-the-rise names including Larry Young and Chick Corea--has all-too-often been overlooked. He draws like-minded players to his bands and many studio projects, as evidenced on his newest recording on Reservoir Music. Autobiography is a ...

Peter Leitch: Blues on the Corner

Read "Blues on the Corner" reviewed by C. Andrew Hovan

Guitarist Peter Leitch has been so long in that category of “talent deserving wider recognition" that it's almost a given that “household name" status will probably continue to allude him. And it probably doesn't abet the matter that his work on the small Reservoir label, not to mention his Criss Cross sides, can be elusive to ...

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, shelter in place and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary effort that will help musicians now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the bottom right video ad). Thank you.
