Don Littleton

Born:
Don Littleton is an accomplished percussionist. His mastery of an enticing array of instruments in his art has uniquely endowed him with the finesse to span many genres, encompassing orchestral, musical theater, rhythm and blues, hip hop, reggae, blues, and is especially proficient in all styles of jazz.
His playing talents include Cajón (box drums), Timbales, Trap Drums, Bongo Drums, Conga Drums, Maracas, Claves, Conga, Cuíca, Djembe, Shekere, and other percussion instruments. A veteran of the Jazz club circuit, Don got his first introduction into music in junior high school and high school. He then took his considerable talents to Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where he was a member of Multi-Jazz Orchestra. There he honed his skills under the tutelage of Alvin Batiste. Don was also a member of the Luckman Jazz Orchestra, directed by James Newton. Don has used his talents on numerous recordings, including his debut EP entitled 'Collage' which is a collaboration with his brother, Jeffery Littleton. Past appearances/performances: BET on Jazz, Long Beach Jazz Festival (Performed with the legendary Hank Crawford), Jazz at Drew Jazz Festival (Performed with jazz legend Stanley Turrentine), Monterey Blues Festival, Armenia International Jazz Festival with Gary Kesayan, 10 day tour of Mexico, Three month tour of Korea, Appeared in the movies Dangerous Women and The Little Richard Story. Performed as part of the orchestra in on stage theatrical production "Purlie" (Pasadena Playhouse) starring Loretta Devine. Has collaborated and performed with Roberta Flack, Hank Crawford, Stanley Turrentine, Cannonball Adderly, Pharoah Sanders, and countless other esteemed Jazz and Blues musicians. Hailing from Portland, ME, Jeffrey K. Witherell is a unique and fearless artist that is stretching and breaking the boundaries of jazz and contemporary music. His music can be described as a musique concrete/avant garde jazz crossover. JKW spends a large amount of time doing field recordings in the darkest, most abandoned places on the east coast-WWII bunkers, train tunnels, and the middle of the forest. His live performances can only be described as electrifying, intense experiences that are not for the faint of heart, epileptics, or traditionalists. Currently finishing his degree at Manhattan School of Music, JKW studies with the great master John Riley, and before that he learned a great deal from the avant-garde pioneer Bob Gullatti in Boston

Angel Cachete Maldonado

Master percussionist Cachete Maldonado’s contribution to the recognition and advancement of Afro- Caribbean music has garnered him well deserved celebrity status. The 2010 release of “Rumba Boricua Campesina,” (Bata Records) with his ensemble Cachete Maldonado y Los Majaderos, maintains the high standards this innovative musician has established. Angel ‘Cachete’ Maldonado was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico on Oct. 16, 1951. His father Rubén, was a respected orchestra bassist which also appeared repeatedly in the early days of local television. Cachete began his musical studies with formal piano lessons, but had an early inclination to percussion and went under the tutelage of drummer Julio ‘Maco’ Rivera

Konono No.1

This Congolese musical group has been active since the late 70s, going under various names including Orchestre Tout Puissant Likembe Konono No 1 and L’Orchestre Folklorique T.P. Konono No 1 (the T.P. stands for tout puissant, French for ‘all powerful’). Based in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the group is led by likembé player Mawangu Mingiedi (1933). He assembled a group of amateur musicians and singers from his native tribe, the Bazombo, but attempts to play the acoustic music associated with the likembé (a traditional Congolese thumb piano) were hampered by the ambient noise of a bustling city
