Don Suhor

Born: August 30, 1932

Don Suhor played clarinet and alto sax in a stunning variety of jazz contexts for 55 years in New Orleans. Virtually unknown outside of the city, he was universally admired by local musicians as a gifted improvisor. On clarinet he applied prodigious technique and knowledge of chords to develop a unique “Dixiebop” style. Trumpeter Wendell Brunious said, “I admired the way he could go from style to style seamlessly and flawlessly.” On alto sax he was a fluent and inventive bopper, influenced by a cadre of post-WWII modernists who jammed after hours at strip clubs in the French Quarter

Tracing its origins within the local swing dance community, their music embraces a foot- taping energy supported by serious musicianship and varied influences. ​Sabertooth Swing​ excels at bringing a fun experience and enhancing it with musical overtones that enrich their sound with beautiful jazz idioms that can be either be a source of exciting dancing or serious listening.

The group is composed of musicians of various origin and musical background, with influences stretching from french chansons, folk & bluegrass, new wave and reggae with, of course, much love and respect for New Orleans’ own musical heritage.

Quiana Lynell

With a smile that will entrance you and a voice that helps your troubles disappear, Lynell’s vocal dexterity allows her to perform a limitless repertoire. Infusing her classical training with her gospel upbringing she approaches jazz as a storyteller. Graduating from Louisiana State University’s music department Lynell is able to harness her voice as a true instrument and perform various genres of music with precision and validity. Lynell frequents the stage as a clinician, performer, arranger, bandleader and songwriter. As she has made her way through the music scene Lynell has shared the stage with headline jazz artists such as Herlin Riley, Roderick Paulin, Don Vappie, Mitchell Player and countless local artists and bands

New Breed Brass Band

New Breed Brass Band lives and breathes the culture of New Orleans, infusing funk, rock, jazz, and hip-hop into a custom-made enhancement of second-line brass band tradition. “That’s what we came up under,” says snare-drummer Jenard Andrews of second line bands like the ReBirth, Dirty Dozen and Lil’ Rascals Brass Bands. “Now we’re trying to take that sound and bring in some new stuff and expand it. We bring outside influences like Earth Wind & Fire and Brass Construction, trying to interpret a different song for every genre, and make it all our own sound.” With a founding core of five New Orleans natives, New Breed Brass Band made its street debut as a nine-man unit in November 2013 at the Nine Times Second Line
