Mosaic

Mosaic is an ensemble/collective dedicated to forging an original voice in Jazz. Together they perform an eclectic range of styles to create a music that's unique and experimental yet remains accessible. Expanding on the traditions of post Bop, Afro-Cuba, electric Jazz and the avant-garde, their rhythmic and harmonic approach is deep and diverse. Whether playing their own works, or those of the great composers of Jazz, they aim to provide a music for the body and the mind. With an instrumentation of keyboards, bass, drum set, and a wide array of woodwind instruments and percussion,Mosaic hopes to put their own stamp on the American legacy known as Jazz.

This Is It!: Mosaic

Read "Mosaic" reviewed by John Sharpe

Fittingly for an artist as relentlessly exploratory as pianist Satoko Fujii, on Mosaic she pushes at the boundaries of recording technology, as well as the music, and comes up trumps. For the second release from the trio This Is It! lack of physical proximity proved no obstacle. Confined to base during the pandemic, Fujii and husband ...

Ludovico Granvassu's 2021 Sonic Delights

Jazz is not a competitive sport and “Best Ofs" are misnomers. End of the year listicles have no bearing on the artistic standing of the albums they include, or on those they neglect, just like a five star review doesn't make the album it graces any better than it already is. But, apparently, humans ...

Another Covid-19 pandemic year, 2021, seems to have brought about a revival of Japanese pianist Satoko Fuji's duo work, with her husband, trumpeter Natsuki Tamura on Keishin, and with vibraphonist Taiko Saito--a pairing dubbed “Futari"--on Underground and Beyond. All three discs are on Libra Records. As the year winds down, she teams once again with Tamura, ...

Multi-Saxophonist / Composer Rahsaan Barber Presents Expansive Musical Vision On 'Mosaic,' Due April 9 From Jazz Music City Records

As gifted a composer as he is an instrumentalist, tenor/alto/baritone saxophonist Rahsaan Barber offers a panoply of his scintillating originals on Jazz Music City’s April 9 release Mosaic. The double album features Barber working with two separate frontline partners—his twin brother Roland Barber on trombone, Nathan Warner on trumpet, and the rhythm section of pianist Matt ...

Mosaic: Subterranea

Read "Subterranea" reviewed by Roger Farbey

Mosaic is led by Royal Academy of Music jazz graduate Ralph Wyld's whose debut album for Edition Records augurs well for this London-based musician. Opening with “White Horses," this track holds the key to Wyld's imaginative compositions; starting slowly, the initial use of horns and arco strings for tonal colour is deceptive as the mood rapidly ...
