The Rookies

The Rookies were born in the spring of 2014 on the forgotten end of Brunswick Street in a dimly lit room full of sweat and beer at The Rooks Return. What started as a quiet set of background jazz for punters while they imbibed their cocktails quickly devolved into an uninhibited, drunken dance party reminiscent of a time almost forgotten. Band leader Greg Sher (alto saxophone) is joined by Tom Sly (trumpet), Joel Trigg (piano), Oscar Neyland (double bass) and Chris Cameron (drums and cymbals), with special guests from Australia and overseas sitting in every week. Their weekly parties are never the same as the band effortlessly jumps genres, twisting and contorting old world repertoire into something idiosyncratically their own

Richard Pavlidis is a saxophonist, composer, teacher and multi-instrumentalist from Melbourne, Australia. Educated at the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne, Richard has toured Australia, New Zealand and Europe and has performed at major festivals including Splendour in the Grass, The Manly Jazz Festival in Sydney, and the Melbourne International Jazz Festival. Richard's debut solo album 'Without Within' was released worldwide in 2019 and supported by an Australian tour. Music from this album can be found in the Australian Jazz Real Book and the Australian Jazz Museum. The album caught the attention of celebrated saxophonist Kenny G, who said via social media "I love the way you combine bebop licks with more modern-sounding phrases, and your technique is amazing

Callum Watson is an award-winning pianist, composer and producer specialising in both Jazz and Classical music. He recently won the Margaret Schofield Scholarship for composition having played at internationally renowned venues such as Melbourne Recital Centre, Malthouse Theatre and Bennetts Lane Jazz Club. As a composer, Callum has written original scores for nine theatre productions including one musical and also has a diverse portfolio of concert works which have been played by ensembles internationally.

Shaun Rammers is a saxophonist and composer who is a part of the jazz and improvised music scene in Australia. Shaun released two albums as a leader and co- leader in 2017. He relocated to Melbourne in 2014 after graduating from the WA Academy of Performing Arts with a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance with Honours. Shaun had the privilege of studying with Jamie Oehlers and Tom O’Halloran during his four years at WAAPA, along with many special guest teachers along the way. These included Dave Ades, Ben Wendel, George Garzone and Steve Magnusson. He has also been involved in numerous workshopping events, with highlights including the School for Improvisation at New York University run by Ralph Alessi in 2011 and the Creative Music Intensive run by the Australian Art Orchestra in 2015. “LIVE” is the first album released by the Shaun Rammers Quintet and features seven original compositions
