The Chicago Plan, Paul Williamson & Patricia Brennan

Read "The Chicago Plan, Paul Williamson & Patricia Brennan" reviewed by Maurice Hogue

No point in looking for a roadmap for this edition of One Man's Jazz because it's all over the place. New releases come from the avant sounds of The Chicago Plan (Gebhard Ullmann, Steve Swell, Fred Lonberg-Holm & Michael Zerang), Norway's Andreas Røysum, vibraphonist Patricia Brennan and South Korean bassist Jeong Lim Yang. International groups presenting ...

New York bassist Max Johnson has embarked on a European tour with his trio, in the run-up to the release of their new album Orbit Of Sound (Unbroken Sounds, 2022). They are playing crucial venues such as Roskam in Brussels and The Loft in Cologne, doubtless climaxing at the Moers Festival, also in Germany (3rd-6th June). ...

Read "Diskonife, Bruno Räberg, Orientation of We & European Releases" reviewed by Maurice Hogue

Bassist Bruno Räberg's reputation as a very creative cat is reinforced by his new release, The Prospector, an excellent album with saxophonist Allan Chase and drummer Austin McMahon. Find it on Orbis, Bruno's own label. Speaking of labels, vibraphonist Matt Moran started Diskonife as a new creative outlet for independent releases, which has launched with releases ...

Chris Pitsiokos / Javier Areal Velez / Kevin Murray: First Blush

Read "First Blush" reviewed by Mark Corroto

Was this gig at New York's Downtown Music Gallery in January, 2020, a one-off performance? Saxophonist Chris Pitsiokos was scheduled to perform solo, probably to promote his extraordinary solo release Speak In Tongues (Relative Pitch, 2019), but chose instead to expand to a trio. And a new trio at that. This wasn't one of his recent ...

Max Johnson In the West Clean Feed Records Un talento multiforme quello del bassista Max Johnson, in grado di spaziare dal rock al bluegrass, dal jazz d'avanguardia alla musica da camera. Read "Free Reservoir" reviewed by Alberto Bazzurro

Yoni Kretzmer: Five

Read "Five" reviewed by John Sharpe

NYC-based Israeli saxophonist Yoni Kretzmer has pulled together a dynamite cast for the debut of his quintet. Kretzmer's thoughtfully arranged compositions engender classic small group free jazz by what comes across as a little big band. It's the sort of session you might have found on the Black Saint label in its heyday, but given a ...
