Fred Tompkins

Born: May 26, 1943

Fred Tompkins was born in St. Louis in 1943. After high school he played tenor saxophone in and around his home town for several years before beginning the formal study of music at the St. Louis Insitute of Music, in 1964. By this time his strongest influences were jazz artists such as John Coltrane, Art Blakey, and the Jazz Messengers and the M.J.Q., and classical composers such as Paul Hindemith and Béla Bartók.

His earliest compositions, as originally recorded on the album, Compositions of Fred Tompkins, showed a natural tendency to combine those genres into his own style. Some of the pieces tended to exploit a dramatic contrast between genres, but soon the transitions became smoother and the styles more synthesized. The best of those early pieces and the best pieces from his subsequent and more fully developed album of 1975, Somesville, can now be heard on the compilation CD, FANFARE 8, The Early Works. Kamil Abt

Kamil Abt is a Polish-Australian jazz guitarist, composer, band-leader and arranger. He is a graduate of the prestigious Elder Conservatorium of Music and has been performing internationally – in Australia, Japan and Europe – for over twenty years. His musical career started in Australia, in Steve Mooney’s hard bop quintet, “Fifth House”. It was there that he also led his own jazz formations: Mosholu Parkway, Jazzyowski and SpeciaL K, also working with musicians such as Adam Page, Daniel J. Ross, Constantinos Koutsouliotas and John Wilson. In Japan he worked in renowned alto saxophone player Hiroshi Yaginuma’s quintet as well as with the Atsushi Matsunaga quartet, while also leading his own quartet

Shirley Crabbe

Born: February 18, 1963

Native New Yorker and 2019 New York Bistro Award winner, Shirley Crabbe has been hailed as possessing a voice that “must surely appeal to all who love good jazz singing.” Her “almost Ella Fitzgerald–like vibe glows…” says Downbeat Magazine's John Ephland on her 2011 debut recording HOME featuring the legendary saxophonist Houston Person. Her 2018 Top 50 album BRIDGES (2018) has received rave reviews and spotlights her collaborations with renowned pianists Donald Vega, and David Budway. Shirley has been a guest on syndicated radio programs such as “Jazz Inspired” hosted by Judy Carmichael, and Steve Cuden's "StoryBeat" to name a few, and currently performs at jazz clubs, festivals and concert series in the US

Modern jazz group SIMIO's members are young, yet tell an ever-changing story with virtuosity and maturity. The music is melodic and lyrical, sitting on the edge between improvisation and composition. After the release of their debut EP Delusional, which got picked up very fast by national radio programs, producers, fellow musicians, record labels and magazines a.o in the US, their second EP A New Path shows their growth. Stefan Frommelt

Born: September 6, 1966

Stefan Frommelt is a pianist, composer, arranger und music teacher from Liechtenstein.

Raised in a family of musicians, he decided to study music and graduated from the Musikhochschule Wien (Mag. Art., Piano & Music Pedagogy) in 1992 and the Hochschule Luzern (Diploma, Jazz Performance, Composition and Arrangement) in 2000. Further studies include master classes, with Simon Nabatov, Uli Rennert, Art Lande and Uli Scherer et al.

He is the founder and bandleader of many ensembles, such as the award-winning "Jazzzirkus"
