Sarah Ellen Hughes

Award-winning vocalist Sarah Ellen Hughes has established herself as a notable presence on the London jazz scene and beyond. Sarah began her career with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra (NYJO), with whom she was lead vocalist from 2005-2008. Since then she has earned many accolades including winning the 2010 International Jazz Singing Competition, “Jazz Voices,” held in Lithuania. In 2011, she was selected as a semi-finalist for the Montreux Jazz Festival voice competition where she was lucky enough to perform in front of Quincy Jones. Quincy himself said “Great singing girl, keep doing what you’re doing.” Sarah has appeared at many of the UK’s top jazz venues including Ronnie Scott’s, Pizza on the Park (where she held a residency for 8 months), 606 Club, Wakefield Jazz Club, and Marlborough Jazz Festival

WorldService Project

Award winning* punk-jazz-funk specialists WorldService Project (WSP) have erupted across the UK and Europe through 2011/12. Alongside their innovative Match&Fuse programme they were chosen for the 12 Points+ European touring scheme, have featured on national radio stations in the UK, Portugal,Germany, Denmark and Sweden and their intense live sound has taken numerous European cities and festivals by storm including the London Jazz Festival, Tampere Jazz Happening (Finland), Umea Jazz Festival (Sweden), Ljubljana Jazz Festival, 12 Points Festival (Porto), Brecon, Marsden and Swanage Jazz Festivals, Europe Day (Dublin), WDR Funkhaus (Cologne), and Match&Fuse double-headers taking in Italy, Norway, Germany, France and Ireland. The London based unit are described by Time Out London as “…dazzling…big things lie ahead for them” and were also dubbed as “brilliant post-prog funk” (Jazzwise) a “tight, deftly structured and grittily grooving music…” (The Guardian) and “serious skronk-jazz” (The Telegraph). Martyn Croston

Born: August 15, 1981

Martyn Croston is currently a jazz/wedding pianist and a piano/music teacher He has performed in the UK, Canada, Russia, Spain and the US, both as a solo pianist and with numerous ensembles at weddings, parties and other events Martyn has played with some notable musicians, including Toby Smith (Jamiroquai) and Dave Richmond (Manfred Mann). After Martyn completed his Bachelors in Music at the University of Bristol, he moved to Moscow, performing regularly throughout the city as a solo pianist and with numerous ensembles, including a performance with the Ukranian guitarist Roman Miroshnichenko. In 2007, he received a scholarship to study a Masters at Western Michigan University, where he received lessons from Dr Stephen Zegree and Tad Weed. Martyn was the pianist for the vocal jazz group Gold Company, performing at the International Association for Jazz Education in Toronto with Darmon Meader from New York Voices

NoName Trio

NoName Trio fuses a concoction of jazz, traditional Iranian music and other influences to produce new compositions and fresh takes on classic jazz covers. The Trio was formed in 2009 out of a friendship between Ceri Evans, MOBO Award-winning jazz pianist, Saleh Zaeri, bassist, and Ali Nourbakhsh on an array of Iranian, Latin American and Africa percussion. The three musicians come from very different musical backgrounds covering everything from acid jazz and funk, to heavy metal, Cuban and traditional Iranian music, and it is the fusion of these sounds that defines NoName's debut album, Nothingness. Nothingness interweaves old and new compositions, adding new flavour to old favourites with explorations in rhythm and improvised melodies, and creating new work from the heart of their shared love for experimentations with fusion jazz music

Natacha Atlas

Natacha Atlas’s new offering, Myriad Road, sees her combining creative forces once again. This time, she has worked with one of France’s most eminent jazz musicians, Ibrahim Maalouf – the highly-garlanded Lebanese-born French jazz and classical trumpeter, producer, and composer—to produce her first jazz album. “The first time I saw Natacha was in Istanbul,” says Maalouf. “We were at the same concert given by Smadj, who plays the oud, and he invited us up onstage to join him. Far from being an oriental cliché or pseudo-orientalist, the Natacha I met was a woman who was undeniably in touch with the world around us

Tomas Ciucelis

Born: January 26, 1981

London based Lithuanian guitarist and composer T.Ciucelis has performed extensively since the late 1990s. After almost a decade of playing in various venues around Europe with his jazz trio, he moved to London. Ciucelis's most consistent output over the last years has taken place in the solo format. Being an inspiring improviser, Tomas demonstrates his highly personal approach to jazz guitar by balancing composing, improvisation and live looping techniques.

Trish Clowes

Saxophonist and composer Trish Clowes has been described as “an improviser to be reckoned with” (Downbeat Magazine) and “one of the most agile and original jugglers of improv and adventurous composition to have appeared in the UK in recent times” (John Fordham, the Guardian). A BASCA British Composer Award winner and former BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist, Clowes has received critical acclaim for all five of her releases for Basho Records, the last two featuring her My Iris quartet with Chris Montague (guitar), Ross Stanley (piano and Hammond organ) and James Maddren (drums). Hailed as “the jazz of the future” (Augsburger Allgemaine) the band have toured and performed worldwide, including appearances at Rochester International Jazz Festival (US), Toronto Jazz Festival, the Barbican (EFG London Jazz Festival), the National Opera House (Wexford), Gateshead International Jazz Festival, Turner Sims, Women in (e)motion Festival and the Stadthaus Ulm. They have also recorded broadcasts for BBC Radio 3 and Radio Bremen.

Corrie Dick

Born: December 20, 1990

At the rhythmic epicentre of a new era of innovative British jazz is Corrie Dick, a musician and composer specialising in euphoric, sonically-inventive drumming. He is lauded for his dynamism, his melodic slant and for his playfully subversive take on style and genre. An artist of prolific and varied output, Corrie; has long been an essential component of Laura Jurd’s music including Mercury Prize shortlisted Dinosaur; is a crucial co-pilot in Elliot Galvin Trio and Rob Luft Group; and co-writes music with an abundance of artists including alternative Indie band Ink Line. His 2015 release Impossible Things which skilfully fused Celtic folk and contemporary jazz with new takes on African rhythms culminated in sold out touring and concerts across the UK

1224 Project

1224 Project is a London-based guitar-bass-drums trio that writes and performs electrifying, groove-fuelled contemporary jazz. Long-standing collaborators Dylan Kay, David Bouet and Leslee Booth have played together in various projects over the years, forming 1224 Project in 2008 as a vehicle for our original compositions. Our music is carefully crafted in regular rehearsals and features odd meters, occasional slide guitar and effects, 6-string bass and death- defying drumming. If you like artists like Medeski, Martin and Wood, John Scofield, Pat Metheny, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Bill Frisell or Wayne Krantz then we hope you’ll enjoy our take on music that grooves, with enough surprises to keep it interesting for everyone.
