King Heron

King Heron sprang from the friendship of three strong musical personalities who share a love of exploration, groove and improvisation. The Bristol trio was formed in 2021 after playing together under other guises and finding their feet within the city’s modern jazz scene. Their unapologetically different slant on the traditional guitar trio form takes cues from a wide spectrum of music - funk, jazz, R&B, soul, modern interpretations of jazz and electronic music all form part of their own distinct fusion sound. Their debut EP ‘Troika EP’ is set to be released in April 2022 following a launch gig at Bristol favourite venue The Gallimaufry

Tim Kuhl: King

Read "King" reviewed by AAJ Italy Staff

Il batterista Tim Kuhl è nato Baltimora nel 1982 e nel 2003 si è trasferito a New York per poter essere un protagonista della scena downtown che continua imperterrita a sfornare proposte interessanti anche in un epoca tirata e bastarda come questa. A classically trained percussionist, he has held a steady residency in the East Village with his jazz ensemble and played with a slew of rock bands, including The Izzys, The Junkman Band, Less Than ...

King : Trigger Zone

Read "Trigger Zone" reviewed by Derek Taylor

The interpersonal politics of collective improvisation are tricky terrain to map and predict. How do musicians determine and agree on a shared spontaneous itinerary? What are the auditory and tactile tools and cues that lead to consensual shifts in direction and scope? What happens when the elements break down or are misconstrued in the moment? The ...

King/Bluiett Trio: Makin' Whoopee

Read "Makin' Whoopee" reviewed by Joel Roberts

This thoroughly enjoyable album is a loose, funky tribute to the music of the Nat King Cole Trio by the great baritone saxophonist Hamiet Bluiett. Using the same spare backing of just guitar and bass as the King Cole Trio, Bluiett covers familiar material from the Cole repertoire like “Sweet Lorraine," “Paper Moon," “Straighten Up and ...
