Sylvie Courvoisier Trio: Free Hoops

Read "Free Hoops" reviewed by Troy Dostert

With her idiosyncratic mixture of mystery and mirth, and a seamless conjoining of jazz and classical musical vocabularies, pianist Sylvie Courvoisier has carved an enviable niche for herself. She not only possesses impeccable technique, but her voice as a composer is just as formidable, whether in partnerships with fellow mavericks like Mary Halvorson, Evan Parker, or ...

Bill Frisell: Valentine

Read "Valentine" reviewed by Angelo Leonardi

Bill Frisell: Valentine

Read "Valentine" reviewed by Ian Patterson

In an extraordinarily varied career Bill Frisell has made just a handful of trio recordings as leader, which is perhaps surprising given how frequently he performs in such a setting. In recent years the Baltimore-born, Denver-raised guitarist has toured two of his most empathetic trios, that with Kenny Wollesen and Tony Scherr and, latterly, with Rudy ...

Medeski, Martin and Wood: A Retro Phenomenon for the New Millenium

Read "Medeski, Martin and Wood: A Retro Phenomenon for the New Millenium" reviewed by Mike Brannon

From the 1995-2003 archive: This article first appeared at All About Jazz in April 1999. No, they're not a law firm, and though they're not yet a household word either, MMW is a trio of formidable sonic integrity and groove. 'Fronted' by Hammond B-3 organist John Medeski, the trio has been described as everything ...

Jerry Granelli, Lisa Ullén, Rudresh Mahanthappa & Yells At Eels

Read "Jerry Granelli, Lisa Ullén, Rudresh Mahanthappa & Yells At Eels" reviewed by Maurice Hogue

Drummer extraordinaire Jerry Granelli says he doesn't look back too much, he'd prefer to move forward with his music, but with Jamie Saft and Brad Jones in tow, he decided the time was right to rediscover some of the tunes he played backing Vince Guaraldi and Mose Allison years back. A sample of his new album ...

Bill Frisell: 40 Years Of Friendship, Music And Mischief With Hal Willner

Read "Bill Frisell: 40 Years Of Friendship, Music And Mischief With Hal Willner" reviewed by Ludovico Granvassu

Kindred spirits and artistic co-conspirators, Hal Willner and Bill Frisell have both devoured an inordinate amount of music with childlike abandon and glee, and then metabolized it into something utterly unique. Delving into their discographies is like getting lost in a treasure hunt where, at every corner, you unearth sonic gems that sound familiar while they ...

Kenny Wollesen

Drummer Kenny Wolleson performed on over 30 recordings during the 1990s and, as the decade progressed, gained increasing renown as a musician of astonishing versatility, skill, and ingenuity. He has recorded and toured with all kinds of musicians, from Tom Waits (Wolleson performs on Waits' 1993 collaboration with William S. Burroughs, Black Rider), to Sean Lennon, to Ron Sexsmith (Wolleson performs on his second album, Other Songs). A founding member of the New Klezmer Trio, Wollesen is also all over N.Y.C.'s downtown jazz and avant-garde musicians' recordings, and has been so active as to tour with Bill Frisell and Myra Melford in the same month

Bill Frisell Harmony Quartet a Trento

Bill Frisell Harmony Quartet Rassegna Transiti Teatro Sanbapolis Trento 24.10.2019 Togliere anziché aggiungere, e in questo processo mirare all'essenza. Molti, nel campo della musica e dell'arte in generale, hanno affermato questo principio e perseguito tale idea. Non facile: bisogna sapere bene dove si vuole arrivare, cosa sfrondare, perché. Quinsin Nachoff's Flux: Path of Totality

Read "Path of Totality" reviewed by Vincenzo Roggero

Quinsin Nachoff, sassofonista e compositore, è nome sostanzialmente sconosciuto dalle nostre parti.
