Musician

Praised as “one of the finest trumpeters of his generation,” John Marchiando currently serves as Professor of Trumpet at the University of New Mexico. Additionally, he performs as Principal Trumpet with the New Mexico Philharmonic, and is a member of the Summit Brass, Enchantment Brass, Tromba Mundi, Fountain City Brass Band, and MarchianDUO.

A committed music educator, students from Marchiando’s trumpet studios hold performing positions in “Pershing’s Own” U.S. Army Band, “Commandant’s Own” U.S. Marine Drum and Bugle Corps, the Navy Fleet Bands, the Nashville Symphony, and the Canadian Forces Band. Several more have been appointed to teaching positions at New York University, Northeastern State University, Western Kentucky University, University of Northern Alabama, and at K-12 schools across the country. Additionally, former UNM students have formed their own businesses such as the Copper Street Brass, Mariachi Gran Victoria, AK Artist Management, and Diversify the Stand. Marchiando continues to serve on the faculty of the Rafael Méndez Brass Institute and is active presenting master classes and clinics worldwide. He has served as an adjudicator for competitions in the National Trumpet Competition, International Trumpet Guild, International Women's Brass Conference, and for state competitions and festivals around the country. Previously, Dr. Marchiando held positions on the faculties of the University of Toledo and Arizona State University.
