Musician

Johannes Ammon

Born:

Born in 1951, German violinist, improvisor, and actor JOHANNES AMMON’s initial musical studies began in 1968 at the conservatory in Nürnberg and continued into München und Berlin Musikhochschule.

After working in Europe with assorted chamber music ensembles and symphony orchestras, Ammon immigrated to the US in 1976. There he continued performing traditional Western art music and began collaborating with an assortment of world folk musicians and avant-garde improvisors, including percussionist Takaaki Masuko and bassist Andrew Blickenderfer, with whom he co-founded the Boston-based free music trio, Sabana Blanca, best known for their much-lauded improvised accompaniments to silent film screenings offered by the Harvard Film Archives.
