Jane Getter

Jane Getter has played with many jazz and rock greats while garnering increasing recognition as a bandleader and gifted writer and instrumentalist. Early in her career she toured with legendary jazz/blues organist Brother Jack McDuff, which provided invaluable training ground. Her composing talents received attention when she won the ASCAP Gershwin Award for Music for Dance or Theatre in the mid 90’s. At this time, she also recorded and toured with Michal Urbaniak’s band Urbanator, featuring Kenny Garrett, Lenny White and Tom Browne. Getter then teamed up with writing partner Lenny White (the legendary drummer from Return To Forever), and co-wrote Urbanator’s smooth jazz hit “Hopscotch”, along with other compositions featured on White’s “Present Tense” and “Acoustic Masters” CD’s

Adam Holzman: Truth Decay

Read "Truth Decay" reviewed by John Kelman

Truly a musician's musician, Adam Holzman's career, visibility-wise, has waxed and waned over the keyboardist's thirty-year career, but he's never been less than busy. His time spent with Miles Davis, during the last years of the music icon's life, helped raise the masterful and broad-reaching keyboardist/producer's profile. Jane Getter Premonition: ON Tour

Read "ON Tour" reviewed by John Kelman

With the release of ON (Madfish/Snapper, 2015)--the debut album with her newly minted Premonition band--guitarist Jane Getter completed her move from the funk/fusion guitar workouts of her first two albums (1997's Jane and 2005's See Jane Run) towards a more progressive leaning which began with Three (Alternity, 2012). It's a move that the New York-based Getter ...

Steven WilsonThéâtre St-Denis Montréal, Canada March 2, 2016 Perhaps one of the biggest signs of multi-instrumentalist Steven Wilson's continued upward trajectory is this: less than nine months after selling out two nights at the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal in 2015, he brought his top- drawer band back to Montreal ...

ON

Read "ON" reviewed by John Kelman

While it's true that, in the rock world, there are relatively few female guitarists, especially those leaning towards the heavier and more progressive side of the equation, that doesn't mean that those intrepid enough to enter what has traditionally been a man's world should be assessed on anything but their own merits. Good guitarists are good ...

Adam Holzman: The Deform Variations

Read "Adam Holzman: The Deform Variations" reviewed by John Kelman

He's been Steven Wilson's keyboardist of choice (and rightfully so) since the British progressive rocker first hit the road in 2011, after years fronting Porcupine Tree, in support of the Kscope artist's first two albums as a solo artist--2009's Insurgentes and 2011's Grace for Drowning. But while Adam Holzman continues to work with Wilson to this ...

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, shelter in place and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary effort that will help musicians now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the bottom right video ad). Thank you.
