Born in San Francisco, James Eason began his jazz saxophone studies while in high school with some of the best saxophonists in the Bay Area — most notably, Jim Grantham and Mel Martin. While attending San Jose State University, he began his studies with Joe Henderson. After two years at SJSU he transferred to Berklee College of Music as a Jazz Composition & Arranging major. While at Berklee he had the pleasure of studying with Joe Viola, Billy Pierce, George Garzone, and John McNeil. After Berklee he got his Master of Music at New England Conservatory of Music.
