Jacob Karlzon

Jacob Karlzon’s new CD, THE BIG PICTURE, is out on Stunt Records. The album was produced jointly by Karlzon and the renowned sound engineer Lars Nilsson, and recorded at Nilento Studio in Gothenburg. Nilsson is often referred to as the group’s fourth member, because the creative atmos- phere in his studio plays an important role in the sound and music on Jacob Karlzon 3’s new release. JK3 constantly seeks new challenges, and THE BIG PICTURE shows the trio combining influences from classical impressionism, ethnic music and American metal with a modern Scandinavian jazz-lyricism, a pul- sating, mesmerizing and immediate beat, and the buzz of improvised music. Karlzon’s virtuosity and technical acumen are well known: Beauty meets raw power in a myriad of nuances and colorings

Johannesson, Schultz and Berglund, featuring Jacob Karlzon: Cause And Effect

Read "Cause And Effect" reviewed by Chris Mosey

Events from a momentous three-year musical period greatly influenced this album: in 1967 the death of John Coltrane; the release, two years later, of In A Silent Way (Columbia, 1969) by his former boss, trumpeter Miles Davis; and the demise of rock icon Jimi Hendrix in 1970. Adam Baldych And The Baltic Gang: Imaginary Room

Read "Imaginary Room" reviewed by Bruce Lindsay

Despite the perceived similarities between musical groups and gangs, there are surprisingly few examples of bands with a “gang" appellation. There's American rockers the James Gang, Brit-punks the Tyla Gang and of course there's the Purple Gang (although that was just a rhythm section). Imaginary Room, the debut release from violinist Adam Baldych and The Baltic ...
