Jim Kimo West is recognized as one of the world’s top “slack key” guitarists and brings his own unique musical perspective to this great acoustic guitar tradition. He is a recent winner of the Hawaii Music Awards, a Na Hoku Hanohano (the Hawaiian “Grammy”) nominee and a two-time winner of the LA Treasures Award for his contributions toward the perpetuation of ki ho’alu. Mauricio Pessoa

NYC resident and Rio de Janeiro native Mauricio Pessoa is a classically trained (graduated in Orchestration at Juilliard Music School) guitarist and singer-songwriter emanating from the current crop of young Brazilian music artists that are keeping the great Brazilian musical tradition alive and well. Mauricio’s original compositions are influenced by the classic Bossa Nova and MPB (Música Popular Brasileira) music of composers such as Antonio Carlos Jobim, Chico Buarque, João Gilberto, Paulinho da Viola and other Brazilian greats. After releasing his debut self-titled record in 2007, the long awaited follow-up disc, Habitat, was released digitally on June 19th 2012, on RED/Sony Music Entertainment through iTunes and on CD on August, on Sony Brasil. The ten songs on Habitat reflect the Brazilian landscape drawing inspiration from Pessoa’s experiences travelling back and forth to Brazil

The BBQ Trio was founded in spring 2004 when Matthew Beaudet, Jean-Michel Berube, Vincent Quirion and had fun at the inevitable return of the great Django Reinhardt at the Café College student Lionel Groulx. João Paulo Amaral

Teja Gerken

German-born Teja Gerken is a contemporary steel-string fingerstyle guitarist whose playing merges the styles of European guitar pioneers such as John Renbourn and Pierre Bensusan with the distinct sounds of American players such as Leo Kottkeand Micheal Hedges. Known for his original compositions, many of which employ alternate tunings, two-handed tapping, percussive effects, and other extended guitar techniques, Teja will also bring Celtic, jazz, and classical styles to the Global Guitar Summit.

Oleg Pissarenko is a distinguished and original Estonian guitarist and composer who is known both as a creator of jazz-minimalism and philosophical jazz as well as a charismatic stage performer. As a visionary organiser, he has led the establishment of Tartu Jazz Club, Tartu Jazz and Rhythm Music Festival IDeeJazz and jazz music education in Tartu. Oleg Pissarenko was born on July 8, 1978, in the Estonian town of Narva. He is an Estonian guitarist, band leader, jazz and rhythm music culture activist and pedagogue. Pissarenko makes original music that has been called jazzminimalism or music in its simple and natural form as well as hypnagogic minimalism and post-rock jazz

Alzy Trio

Born: May 1, 2002

The Alzy Trio dates back to the spring of 2002 when three friends, all guitarists, decided to play some of their favourite jazz and bossa nova tunes. In 2007, they signed their first CD, Seize cordes en bal(l)ades. It included instrumental variations of eight great classics (Wave, Corcovado, So danço samba, Insensatez, So what, Birdland, etc.) composed by Miles Davis, Vinícius de Moraes, Tom Jobim and Joe Zawinul, among others. That first CD led to a television show with Pierre Barouh, Sheyla Costa and Jean-Pierre Mas, an invitation to the international jazz festival in Tangiers (Morocco) and an array of Friends concerts bringing together rafts of other musicians. Today, together with a number of special guests, the Alzy Trio takes on the vast repertoire of French chansons with arrangements in a very jazzy and bossa nova style. They meander through time and styles with pleasure and a certain complicity that they hope listeners will enjoy.

Maciek Pysz

A quiet virtuoso who has developed into one of the most distinctive guitarists around" Ian Mann, The Jazz Mann. Born in 1982 in Poland, guitarist and composer Maciek Pysz has been playing guitar since the age of 11, it was all he ever wanted to do and he is self-taught. He has been inspired by musicians such as Ralph Towner, Sylvain Luc, Pat Metheny, Joe Pass, John McLaughlin, Bireli Lagrene, Chick Corea, Wolfgang Muthspiel, Richard Galliano, Enrico Pieranuzi, Paolo Fresu and Michel Petrucciani to name a few. Pysz mainly plays Godin acoustic and classical guitars. His influences come from Tango, Flamenco, Latin, Jazz, Brazilian and Classical music but his sound is his own, and his compositions show “genuine improvisational flair enveloping the excellent tunes

Looks

Looks is an acoustic jazz/funk band that started in the underground jam scene in Bergen,the beautiful city on Norway's west coast. They debut recording was at Roaming Records Sessions, and currently their first studio-recorded album is in the making. It's set to release in 2012.
