Gene Coleman

Gene Coleman is a New York City based flutist and soprano saxophonist. Gene has had multiple careers: as an audio engineer; adjunct professor teaching film studies and performing musician. Graduated from Fordham University (NY); New York University with musical studies at the Juilliard School of Music's Extension Division. While attending high school Gene had the most fortunate experience of having Eric Dolphy as his first private music teacher. Further music studies included lessons with Hubert Laws and Lee Konitz. Musical activity included associations with The Sun Ra Arkestra, The World Flute Orchestra, Karl Berger's Improvisational Orchestra, The New York Jazz Flutet, The Beyond Group among many others. Besides playing flute(which includes alto & bass flutes, piccolo) and soprano saxophone, he has a special interest in the Nay.
