Five Peace Band

Chick Corea and John McLaughlin are truly kindred spirits. Both are brave musical explorers and singular virtuosos on their respective instruments. As young jazz artists, they both did stints with the legendary Miles Davis and appeared together on the groundbreaking jazz/rock/funk classic Bitches Brew. Each later ventured out to form his own revolutionary band: McLaughlin’s Mahavishnu Orchestra and Corea’s Return to Forever. The innovative music played by these two groups attracted huge audiences in the ‘70s and helped shape a new genre of music, turning multitudes of rock fans on to a new form of jazz. Since then they have both had extraordinarily prolific careers, with continual creative output spanning many genres of music and in a host of different musical settings, while maintaining unparalleled artistic integrity

Christian McBride: Getting the Inside Straight

Read "Christian McBride: Getting the Inside Straight" reviewed by Esther Berlanga-Ryan

If we think about it for a little while, it's possible to believe that there is something almost mystic and undeniably powerful about jazz. The way it developed through the years and its constant ignition-like energy; the creativity of those who lead the way and those who continue the journey today; the improvisation that takes over ...

Corea, Clarke, and White Tonhalle Dusseldorf, Germany November 4, 2009 An acoustic visit by these long journeying, top tier collaborators brought fresh perspective to their work, and thus to both the ups and downs of a widely touted gig. Happily, for the relatively small crowd, there were far more ...

Chick Corea / John McLaughlin: Five Peace Band Live

Read "Five Peace Band Live" reviewed by John Kelman

Superstar collaborations often look good on paper but don't pan out in reality, so it's a real pleasure to see that the pairing of two modern legends--keyboardist Chick Corea and guitarist John McLaughlin--is far more than some marketing representative's wet dream. Teaming with three younger players who add their own cachet--saxophonist Kenny Garrett, bassist Christian McBride ...

Brian Blade: Songs From His Heart

Read "Brian Blade: Songs From His Heart" reviewed by R.J. DeLuke

Known in the jazz world for his slick and superlative drumming skills, Brian Blade is engaged in making other musical statements these days. Statements that are outside the jazz genre, but are an essential part of this enlightened man and serious musician whose musical tastes run “between Bela Bartok and Wayne Shorter to Al Green," who, ...

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, shelter in place and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary effort that will help musicians now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the bottom right video ad). Thank you.
