Mwendo Dawa

SUSANNA LINDEBORG'S MWENDO DAWA is always an adventure listening to. They were a bit of pioneers when the group was formed in the 70th when it came to combining expression of Jazz and traditional instruments together with the possibilities given by new instruments of the time. And they still are. Apart from most others fascinated by the same possibilities at the time. Musically MWENDO DAWA is now working with improvisation in serial technique with electro acoustical backgrounds but with a strong rythmical approach. The group is still now, 30 years later, as much pioneers as ever before. MWENDO DAWA is updated on all frontiers, the musical vision is still there but has changed and grown not only together with technological progress

Susanna Lindeborg

Born: April 18, 1952

Susanna Lindeborg, piano,keyboard, composer. After receiving a classical education she came during the 70th into contact with improvised jazz music, which became an important source of inspiration.

What you first think of together with Susanna Lindeborg is her virtuouso play on the piano mixed with electronic instruments, which has been known most of all through the group {{m: Mwendo Dawa = 19835}}, which she is the leader of together with saxophone player {{m: Ove Johansson = 17430}}. {{m: Mwendo Dawa = 19835}} has been succesfully touring in 25 countries in Europe, North and South America, China performing at festivals like Montreux, Northsea and Montreal. The last few years she has been regularly visiting USA and Canada with {{m: Mwendo Dawa = 19835}}. Susanna also writes a lot of the repertoire for the group.

Collin Sherman

Born: June 14, 1979

Collin was born in 1979 in Lexington, Kentucky. Growing up in Louisville, he began playing saxophone in 4th grade at age 9. He attended Oberlin College (in Oberlin, Ohio) and Tulane Law School (in New Orleans, Louisiana). Collin moved to New York City in 2004, and played with a traditional jazz group on and off while practicing law. He began releasing his own recording in 2012. His early recording were in the ambient electronic vein, partly because the project was entirely self- produced and Collin did not have access to standard recording equipment. As he grew more comfortable recording and producing on his own, he gradually began incorporating his wind instruments (alto and soprano saxophone, Bb soprano and bass clarinet) into his recordings

Jeff Morris

Born: 1976

Jeff Morris is an improviser, coder, and composer. His live sampling debut album, Interfaces (Ravello Records) explores different ways for a computer performer to fit in a jazz trio without dominating it (like Ornette Coleman thought of the piano for forty years). Jeff is joined by free jazz legend Karl Berger (vibes, piano) and NYC dynamo Joe Hertenstein (drums, found percussion). In all his work, Jeff creates experiences that engage audiences’ minds with their surroundings. His performances, installations, lectures, and writings appear in international venues known for cutting- edge arts and deep questions in the arts

Michel Banabila

Born: April 14, 1961

Michel Banabila, born 1961, is a composer, sound artist and producer. His music has been released since 1983, and he has produced musical scores for numerous films, documentaries, theatre plays and choreographies. His work varies from minimal loop-based electronica, fourth world, and neo-classical pieces, to drones, experimental electronica, tribal ambient, and punk-as-fuck tape music. In addition to acoustic instrumentation, Banabila uses samples, electronics, synths, found objects and field recordings. His work has been released internationally by labels like 12th Isle (UK), Bureau B (DE), Knekelhuis (NL), Eilean Rec (FR), Pingipung (DE) and Séance Centre (CA).

Esinam

Multi-instrumentalist Esinam recalls the spirit of her Ghanaian roots in a ballet of instruments slightly sustained by almost invisible loop machines. Born in Brussels, she finds inspiration in her journeys all over the world and encounters with different cultures. In her solo set, she uses electronic machines and turns into a « one-woman band».She composes, plays and performs her own contemporary music with flute, percussions, vocals as well as traditional and modern instruments. Both her sensitivity and her personal way of merging different genres together do create, color and uplift Esinam’s musical universe

David Helbock

Born: January 28, 1984

Two rewards and the audience prize at the world biggest jazz-piano-solo competition of the Jazzfestival Montreux, a lot of enthusiastic/international reviews for his CDs and the most important prize in Austria 2011 - the "Outstanding Artist Award" - David Helbock, the pianoplayer coming from a small little village in Austria called Koblach, is with no doubt, has already had a great international musical career. Helbock is not only a great pianist, he is also a very individual thinker, who is investing not only a lot of dexterity but also quite an amount of brain activity to his projects
