Eagles
Active since:
The band formed in 1971 when Linda Ronstadt's then-manager, John Boylan, extracted Frey, Leadon, and Meisner from their affiliations. They were short a drummer until Frey phoned Henley, whom he had met at the Troubadour in Los Angeles. The band backed up Ronstadt on a two-month tour, then decided to form their own band, The Eagles. Their first album, The Eagles, was filled with pure, sometimes innocent country rock; their second, Desperado, was themed on Old West outlaws and introduced the group's penchant for conceptual songwriting. To record their third album, On the Border, the group selected producer Glyn Johns, who previously worked with Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, and The Who
Christian Parker: Sweethearts: A Tribute To The Byrds 'Sweetheart of the Rodeo'
by Doug Collette
In the half-century plus since it came out, the Byrds' Sweetheart of the Rodeo (Columbia Records, 1968) arguably has not received the accolades it deserves for its marriage of country music with rock and roll. But that misperception may be grounded in the reality that the album as it was released is not exactly how it ...
Cimarron 615 and Poco: This Country Rocks!
by Doug Collette
When Poco formalized the marriage of country music with rock and roll via Pickin' Up The Pieces (Epic, 1969)--after the first convergence of the genres on the Byrds' Sweetheart of the Rodeo (Columbia, 1968), the quintet emphasized improvisation in a way that's been lost during the evolution of contemporary country (although it's now the foundation of ...

Eagles: Legacy
by Doug Collette
Sometimes a gift box is just a gift box and that's certainly true of Eagles' Legacy. Not to disparage its ample resources, this is not quite the definitive history of these commercial kingpins of the Seventies. But then, there's never been one, at least in any format similar to this: Selected Works (Elektra, 2000) comes close, ...
The Vintage Years 1970 - 1991
by John Kelman
There are bands that manage to carve out a place for themselves in the music world that lasts for decades; there are others who, while having created a name for themselves during their peak years and, while they continue to tour and, even, make the occasional studio album, are invariably best remembered for their seminal early ...
