The Dutch Jazz Orchestra is focused on special projects within the realm of jazz. They are specialised in performing and recording obscure, and often unknown, works by the unsung heroes of jazz. The Dutch Jazz Orchestra has quit a list of rarely performed works of composers, as Mary Lou Williams, George Handy, Gil Evans, Gerry Mulligan, Claude Thornhill, The Boyd Raeburn Orchestra, Duke Ellington and now Billy Strayhorn, on it’s name.And so in 1995 The Dutch Jazz Orchestra, lead by Jerry van Rooijen, started a new project and they released the CD “Portrait Of A Silk Threat” on which they presented unknown and never earlier recorded work of Billy Strayhorn
