Kurt Bowermaster

Born:

I first played drums for money at age 14 for a local dinner theater pit orchestra. I've since performed thousands of gigs of all types including: pit orchestras, big band/swing, modern jazz, rock, blues, Klezmer, and my favorite - Traditional two-beat and four-beat Dixieland jazz. I have led my own dixieland bands since 1982 (my Party Gras Dixieland Band has been performing more than 100 times a year since 1998) and I also lead The Downtowners, a nine-piece swing band. I have played with many of the best musicians currently playing the jazz festival circuit. From 1996 to 1999 I produced The Greater Des Moines Good Times Jazz Festival and am currently producing the Good Times Jazz Concerts Series which features the best available traditional and dixieland bands currently touring. Musician

Jim Miller

Born:

I've been involved in the professional music business since 1970, but incredibly, still enjoy playing the drums anyway. I consider it very fortunate that my Indianapolis grade school had a full band program and indoor plumbing as well. At age 12 the "music nun" yanked me from piano lessons to play drums in the orchestra because no one else had exhibited any natural proclivity toward becoming the scapegoat in the school's traditional losses at district band contests. Falling in love with the drums immediately, I demonstrated my interest and gratitude by ripping off drumsticks from the school, using them at home to break the heads on a pair of Emenee bongos.

In order to protect the windowsills and tabletops, a drumset was soon provided and in no time, I was auditioning for my first band ("Do you know the beat to 'Wipe Out'?" "Yeah." "OK, you're in.")
