Muruga Booker

Muruga Booker, also known as Steve Booker, Maruga, and Muruga is an American born, drummer and artist of Serbian decent. Muruga and his wife Shakti, son Aaron, and daughter Rani have lived a drummer's journey. He was born Steven Bookvich in Detroit, Michigan on December 27th, 1942. His father Melvin Bookvich was a shoe maker who played accordion. Muruga first played the accordion before taking up drums as a pre-teen. Muruga studied drums under a Russian music teacher Misha Bischoff. Muruga first professionally played drums with "The Low Rocks" in Detroit as Steve Booker. Under that name he achieved fame locally playing with not only "The Low Rocks," but the "Thunder Rocks," Ted Lucas and The Spike Drivers, and was renown for his long, driving drum solo's

Jazz has become the idiom through which I am able to express my inner creative voice. The magical interaction with fellow musicians in a recording session or on a stage is what keeps me coming back again and again. I've found a true passion for playing the drums. Jimmy Weinstein
Drummer/composer, Jimmy Weinstein was born in Chicago, IL. he moved with his wandering family from Chicago to Europe, back to California and later to Spain. As a child he studied piano and cello. At age 13 he taught himself drums and guitar, and played in school bands and musicals. After finishing high school in Spain he went to England to pursue a career as a yacht designer, which eventually landed him a job in New York City where he began to study jazz, working as a designer by day and studying at the Drummer's Collective and Barry Harris' Jazz Cultural Theater by night. It has already produced one of the all time groove classics their version of Roy Budd's theme from the seminal '70's gangster movie "Get Carter!" He has now with Dan founded Mysteries Of The Revolution a three piece with BB on drums, flute, beatvox/voice Dan Biro, keyboards, Mark Smith, bass. Les DeMerle

Long at the forefront of modern jazz drumming, drummer, clinician and band leader Les DeMerle toured and recorded with the Harry James Big Band from 1970 to 1982. One of those recordings, "King James Version" won a Grammy Award. Les toured for three years and recorded with Wayne Newton, also toured and recorded with Manhattan Transfer, and has appeared with many other musical greats, including, Lou Rawls, Sammy Davis Jr., Frank Sinatra, Mel Torme, and Joe Williams. His own jazz/rock group Transfusion, produced five poll-winning albums, and his two educational drum books, Jazz/Rock Fusion, Volumes 1 and 2, published by Hal Leonard, have long been best sellers.
