Sort of like a bass player and drummer, and the house always swung.” It was not unusual to hear Gene Ammons, Duke Ellington, Shirley Scott, Miles Davis, Oscar Peterson, Count Basie, Jimmy Smith, Dinah Washington, Milt Jackson or Herbie Mann at any point in the day. “I was very respectful of the record collection”, Jackson remembers

Billy Kilson
Born:
Like most young drummers, Billy Kilson began his career in his mother's kitchen with her pots and pans. Billy's love for the drums began to grow as he grew. Pots and pans, twigs and sticks were used to create a beat. Seeing her son's interest in music, Billy's mother enrolled him in trumpet lessons and later he switched to trombone. His yearning for the drums continued and finally, for his sixteenth birthday he received his first drum set. The gift was conditional upon his continuance of good grades. He kept his part of the bargain and graduated with honors while taking advantage of every free moment to pursue his passion for the drums. Billy went immediately to work to hone the skills he had developed on the pots and pans

Born:
Joe Sorbara is a highly inventive drummer and percussionist with a penchant for coaxing music out of practically anything. Joe's drumkit is regularly augmented with found and prepared material that ensures that the sounds at his ready disposal are practically orchestral in scope. He leads Other Foot First, a 'seven-or-more-tet' that is the primary outlet for his inventive compositions. Elsewhere, Joe plays in the Remnants Trio, Ken Aldcroft's Convergence Ensemble, and the AIMToronto Orchestra as well as in numerous ongoing and ad hoc collaborations with other improvisers
