Steve Hatfield

Born:

If there is hope for jazz in this still-young century it rests in the hands and hearts of artists such as Steve Hatfield, a composer and player dedicated to clarity of expression, to the melody, harmony and rhythms of music as well as life. Hatfield’s music captures the full beauty of the human experience. the serenity of twilight and the burst of hopeful rays that come with morning light. His emotional range is evident in original compositions such as “Just Be Wally,” “Wacky Shack” and “As You Were,” but it’s also evident in his choice of covers the haunting pop masterpiece “6 Underground” (Sneaker Pimps) and Joe Jackson’s equally masterful “Steppin’ Out.” The interplay between Hatfield, bassist Mark Foley, guitarist Randy Zellers and keyboardist Steve Bartkoski is remarkable not just in the musical acumen displayed but in each musician’s dedication to the emotional expression behind each song

Chacho Ramirez

Born:

Berardo “Chacho” Ramirez is bandleader, composer and drummer of his band “MetroTang” playing Latin Jazz with an Afro-beat. MetroTang opened the Narrowsburg JazzFest in May 2006 as its premiere performance. The recently released CD, “Lights Out,” presents original tunes plus one by Paquito d’Rivera and one by Bobby Martone. The CD is receiving accolades, as “Chacho has created a contemporary sound that expresses today’s cultural milieu” (Hal Galper).

Born in New York City in 1951 of Cuban and Puerto Rican background, Chacho began playing drums at the age of 12. His parents didn’t want to buy him a drum set, so he arranged grocery store boxes as a set around him; he had to replace boxes frequently. Later, with a drum set and living in apartments, Chacho was frequently chased from his rehearsal space down the block, sometimes with a broom. Nevertheless, he persevered through the years, studying intermittently with Ian Finkel (Xavier Cugat Band), Steve Barrios (Mongo Santamaria, Fort Apache Band), Freddie Waits (McCoy Tyner, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye), and Pablo Rieppi (Professor, Columbia University, Hofstra University). Chacho also taught in workshops, drum clinics and Master Classes alongside Max Roach, Alan Dawson, Joe Morello, Bernard Purdie, and Jim Chapin.

Paolo Lattanzi

Born:

Born in 1977 in Macerata, Italy, Paolo's discovery of music starts soon thanks to his brother’s and mother's assortment of albums ranging in genres from Rock to Classical. At the age of 16, he buys his first drumkit. A huge fan of Led Zeppelin he focuses mainly on the sound of those incredible albums and the other great rock bands of the 60's and 70's. In the following years he expands his repertoire of styles by being part of hard rock, blues and latin bands and in 1998 he wins an award for best drummer in a regional competition while he keeps playing extensively in central Italy. With the discovery of jazz Paolo starts to explore a growing interest in a "freer", more expressive approach to music. In the year 2000 he decides that in order to keep moving ahead musically he has to leave the comforts of his current life and go where he could learn more and challenge himself. In January of 2002 he enrolls at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, majoring in performance and graduates with the honor of “Magna Cum Laude” in the spring of 2005. While studying the drums Paolo develops a strong interest in composing and arranging and during his years at Berklee he divides his studies between the drums and the “staff”. Soon after graduating he joins those two sides and forms a group with which he records Night Dancers, featuring him as leader, composer and drummer
