Musician

Dino Saluzzi

Born:

The son of popular carpero composer and instrumentalist Cayetano Saluzzi, Dino played the bandoneón since his childhood. Other than his father, he was influenced by Salta musicians such as Cuchi Leguizamón, and by the lyrical strain of the tango of Francisco de Caro and Agustin Bardi. For much of his youth, Saluzzi lived in Buenos Aires, playing with the Radio El Mundo orchestra. He would play in orchestras for a living, while touring with smaller, sometimes jazz-oriented ensambles (including a brief stint with Gato Barbieri), developing a personal style that made him a leading bandoneonist in Argentine folklore and avant-garde music (especially since Ástor Piazzolla did not participate in projects other than his own)

I Dischi del 2025 secondo Ludovico Granvassu

Read "I Dischi del 2025 secondo Ludovico Granvassu" reviewed by Ludovico Granvassu

Capturing the breathtaking beauty, range, and diversity of jazz released in 2025 through a list of “10 best albums" feels as challenging, vain--and ultimately disappointing--as trying to photograph the Grand Canyon at sunset by placing a pinhole in front of a rudimentary digital camera's lens. Sure, a picture will be taken. It might even prove you ...

Even as the world seems to spin faster and faster, jazz has got your back. With albums responding to the current musical dialogue as well as those looking back to the past, 2025 offered a wonderful assortment of delicious earworms. It was a year of tasteful tunes, imaginative expressionistic freestyling, and generous arrangements of time-favoured oldies. ...

Dino Saluzzi: El Viejo Caminante

Read "El Viejo Caminante" reviewed by Doug Collette

El Viejo Caminante is a natural and logical extension of Dino Saluzzi's Albores (ECM, 2020). On that solo album, the bandleader used his instrument (the bandoneon--an accordion-like instrument with origins in Germany) to mesmerize and during this companion piece/sequel, Saluzzi's interplay with his two bandmates is comparably hypnotizing. As such, the album belies the ...
