Ron Jones

For over 37 years, Ron Jones has dedicated himself to the art of craft of composing. Most of his creative work has involved scoring music for TV and Film projects, produced by both major Hollywood studios and independent productions companies. After getting his degree in music composition and music theory, Ron moved directly to Los Angeles, in order to study at the famous Dick Grove School of Music. What attracted Ron’s attention was that all the teachers were successful professional musicians, arrangers and composers who where actively involved in creating music for recording artist, TV and film and other real world music areas

WNYC has called his music "lush and inventive," and Downbeat Magazine referred to it as “a Great American Songbook of another order." His compositions and arrangements have been performed nationally and internationally by the Awakening Orchestra, the Metropole Orkest, Jon Irabagon, the Westerlies, WeatherVest, Osso String Quartet, the Vermont Symphony Orchestra, Saturn People’s Sound Collective, TURNmusic, and the Champlain Philharmonic Orchestra. Kyle has also scored for National Geographic Television and orchestrated for the independent film Nude Tuesday.

Russ Kaplan

Born: August 17, 1978

Russ Kaplan is a musical storyteller. A creatively restless composer and versatile keyboardist, his diverse musical obsessions have led him through the worlds of jazz, rock, and theatre music.

A recent transplant to the Twin Cities of Minnesota, Russ is continuing to explore his obsessions with world music, indie rock, and modal improvisation. His newest project is a trio with local luminaries Jeremy Ylvisaker (guitar) and Marcus Wise (tabla).

Previously, Russ resided in central Florida for a year, where he found inspiration with the abundant and fascinating wildlife. The result was the album Lake Songs, his first foray into thru-composed solo piano chamber music.

Jeff Holmes

Pianist, composer, arranger and trumpeter Jeff Holmes was born in 1955, grew up in Lynnfield MA, and earned degrees from the Eastman School of Music where he studied with Rayburn Wright and Bill Dobbins, among others. Holmes is a nationally published and commissioned composer/arranger (B.M.I.), and a multiple recipient of National Endowment For The Arts Jazz Composition Grants. He has written music for John Abercrombie, Ernie Watts, Max Roach, Chris Vadala, Doc Severinsen, Paul Winter, Sheila Jordan, Yusef Lateef, Rufus Reid, the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, Jack’s Mannequin, and the Big Apple Circus, as well as numerous works for professional, military, collegiate, high school and junior high jazz, concert, and marching ensembles. He has performed around the world including Russia, Japan, and Australia, and was a featured artist on the Jazz at the Kennedy Center series in Washington D.C with the Billy Taylor Trio

Dorian Wallace

Born: November 17, 1985

Dorian Wallace is a renowned composer, pianist, and music therapist known for his impressive improvisational skills, versatile style, and unyielding commitment to sociopolitical causes. He has collaborated with numerous artists such as Paul Pinto, Bonita Oliver, John Sanborn, Nicholas Finch, Charlotte Mundy, Pamela Z, and Frank London. Dorian has also provided his musical services to political figures like Jarvis Tyner, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Gerald Horne, Blade Nzimande, and Sing In Solidarity.

Apart from his work in composition and performance, Dorian has also served as a music therapist and mindfulness teacher at Rikers Island

As PPL, Brian has composed the operas On the Cranial Nerves of Barbarians (Dixon Place, ABC No Rio, The Manhattan Theatre Source and elsewhere), The Last Dreams of Helene Weigel or How to Get Rid of The Feminism Once and For All (ABC No Rio, Surreal Estate, Cabinet Magazine Event Space and over PostTV), Institute_Institut (LaGuardia Performing Arts Center, the cell) and incidental and interactive music, sound design, and technological set-ups for other projects like The Silviculture Museum (chashama installation with Pine Thumbs sound software) and Calmly Engaged (Flux Factory and Wilderness Gallery)

Fred Sturm has composed and arranged music featuring jazz vocalists Kurt Elling and Bobby McFerrin; trumpeters Clay Jenkins, Ingrid Jensen, Wynton Marsalis, and Clark Terry; trombonists Bob Brookmeyer, Wycliffe Gordon, and Jim Pugh; saxophonists Branford Marsalis, Chis Vadala, and Phil Woods; guitarists Gene Bertoncini, Mike Stern, and John Scofield; vibraphonists Gary Burton and Joe Locke; bassists Arild Andersen and Ike Sturm; pianist Lars Jansson; and drummer Steve Houghton.

Sturm has served as guest conductor/composer/arranger for professional jazz ensembles and radio orchestras in Germany, Italy, Denmark, Sweden, Scotland and Norway; as director of university jazz ensembles and high school all-state jazz bands throughout the U.S.; as clinician at national educational conferences and festivals; and as composer-in-residence for school and university music programs.
