ULRICH MITZLAFF completed his cello studies in the seventies at Tübingen (Germany) with Professor Stefan Zarnescú. Since 1996 he lives at Lisbon, Portugal, where he works as cellist and composer of contemporary and experimental music, improvisation, free-jazz, conceptual composition and sound-art. He collaborates with various artists in multidisciplinary and electro-acoustic projects including music creations for dance and theatre. He was member of the art-association “granular”.

Yoed Nir

Born in Israel, Yoed Nir is a classically trained cellist who began his music studies at the age of seven at the Tel Aviv Conservatory, graduating from the Jerusalem Music Academy in 2005. He then participated in Master Classes for symphonic and chamber music under the tutelage of such legendary musicians as Daniel Barenboim, Janos Starker, Kurt Masur, Boris Pergamenchikov, Mischa Maisky and Bernard Greenhouse, and won numerous competitions and scholarships, including First Prize at the 2002 International String Competition in Jihlava (Czech Republic). Yoed has since performed throughout Israel and Europe, most notably with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra in 2007. Yoed Nir has also earned an enviable reputation outside classical music circles for his ability to improvise and craft arrangements for Pop, Rock, Jazz and Crossover artists, working on more than 400 albums with such renowned performers as Judy Collins, Paul Banks (Interpol), Regina Spektor, Rufus Wainwright, Diane Birch, Shawn Colvin, Hurt and the singer Yael Naim, for whom he arranged and overdubbed all the string parts on her two most recent albums, the first of which was honored with a 2008 Best World Music Album in France. In 2007, Yoed Nir decided to base his career in New York, and since that time has performed at a wide variety of the City’s venues, including the Beacon Theatre, Radio City Music Hall, Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall and Merkin Concert Hall

Bethany & Rufus

Having recently returned from the Festival Daoula in Bamako, Mali; Bethany & Rufus have expanded their group formation to include Yacouba Moumouni (Niger) and Haitian Percussionist 'Bonga' Jean-Baptiste. The expanded group came into being on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of their Label Daqui. Yacouba was appearing with his ground breaking group from Niger, Mamar Kassey, on the same stage as Bethany and Rufus . Yacouba joined Bethany & Rufus for one of the songs and the rest is the kind of magic chemistry that can never be planed. The following summer the expanded group along with Bonga was invited to perform at Les Nuits Atypique and while doing a promotional spot on Radio France for the festival they were invited to perform on the Live a FIP radio series in March of 2009 that will be released as a Live CD September 10 2009 as a co- production with Radio France and Daqui Records. It was in the process of rehearsing that the group really came into focus

Called an “adventurous cello songstress” (Time Out New York), cellist, composer, and vocalist Jody Redhage's dual passions for chamber music and new music have led her to participate in an array of cutting-edge projects. Praised for her “exceptional technical command,” (Steve Smith, Night After Night), Jody has premiered over 100 works, including many of her own compositions for chamber ensembles, as well as premieres of fellow composers' works. Jody has also spent the past seven years developing the ability to simultaneously sing and play complex, rhythmically intricate and independent musical lines. Joan Jeanrenaud

Joan Jeanrenaud was born and raised on a small farm outside Memphis, Tennessee. She started playing the cello at age 11 and began studying with Peter Spurbeck the following year. As a teenager, Jeanrenaud - who was the principal cellist of the Memphis Youth Symphony - developed an interest in contemporary music. She continued her studies with Fritz Magg at Indiana University, where she was a founding member of the IU Contemporary Music Ensemble. A highlight of her college years was her participation as a Fellow at Tanglewood, where she was principal cellist with the Festival Orchestra conducted by Leonard Bernstein

Fred Lonberg-Holm

Chicago based cellist Fred Lonberg-Holm grew up in Wilmington Delaware where he began formal cello studies at the age of 10. Eager to move away, he did so immediately after High School relocating to New York. There he studied with a variety of teachers in a number of schools and other situations. After receiving his bachelors in composition at Brooklyn College, he attended Mills College where he spent time with Anthony Braxton among others. Since then he has moved to Chicago where he leads his Valentine Trio (with Jason Roebke, bass and Charles Rumback, drums) and organizes intermittent concerts for his large ensemble, the Lightbox Orchestra

Coming from a family with a musical and theatrical background, her father a blues singer and mother a former actor, Ashia knew she was meant to lead a life in an artistic field. She was born in Poland, but her family came to the United States via former West Germany in 1984 due to political and social upheaval. Upon settling in the U.S. a few years later, she began her cello studies at the age of 9. While still in high-school, she started to combine singing and playing the cello and continued this distinct concept well into college at Central Washington University with a Farrell Merit Scholarship recital titled Non-Traditional Cello
