Carl Schultz was born in the suburbs of Philadelphia but moved to New York in the early 2000s to begin studying at SUNY Purchase. During his time in New York Schultz was fortunate to participate in creative projects with musicians like James Shipp and Ray Vega. In 2006, Schultz returned to Philadelphia to continue his education at The University of The Arts where he studied with Ben Schachter and began performing with local groups like the Lars Halle Jazz Orchestra and The Philly Big Band, as well as leading his own quartet. Moving to Colorado in 2014, Schultz began graduate studies at The University of Colorado
