Various Artists: I Never Meta Guitar Three

Read "I Never Meta Guitar Three" reviewed by Mario Calvitti

Various Artists: I Never Meta Guitar Three

Read "I Never Meta Guitar Three" reviewed by Glenn Astarita

Few would be more equipped to produce this series of various guitarists parading their avant-garde stuff other than New York City-based, and world-renown experimental guitar acolyte, Elliot Sharp. This third installment of the ongoing extravaganza showcases the far-flung imaginations of 18 artists, continuously pushing the envelope via a kaleidoscopic presentation sketched with unconventional acoustic-electric tone poems. ...

Andrew Drury: Content Provider

Read "Content Provider" reviewed by Dave Wayne

On the wittily-titled Content Provider, Seattle-born, NYC- based drummer and composer Andrew Drury leads a remarkable band consisting of saxophonists Briggan Krauss (best-known for his work with Sex Mob) and Ingrid Laubrock, and gonzo electric guitarist Brandon Seabrook. Despite lacking a bassist (Seabrook provides some bass- line like figures here and there) it's a small band ...

TOTEM>: Voices of Grain

Read "Voices of Grain" reviewed by Glenn Astarita

The trio returns with a vengeance on its second album, where they delve into a boundary-less avant-garde foray, proffering an extension of sorts, to Solar Forge (ESP, 2008). And the musicians hop right into the thick of things on the opener “Genosong," where electric guitarist Bruce Eisenbeil saws, slices, and seemingly hacks his way through a ...

TOTEM>: Voices of Grain

Read "Voices of Grain" reviewed by Eyal Hareuveni

It took five years for the New York-based trio TOTEM> to release its sophomore album (after Solar Forge ESP, 2008) but the waiting paid off. This leaderless trio--comprised of guitarist Bruce Eisenbeil, double bassist Tom Blancarte and drummer Andrew Drury--is more than the sum of its parts and stronger than ever. The ...

Terrence McManus / Mark Helias / Gerry Hemingway: Transcendental Numbers

Read "Transcendental Numbers" reviewed by John Sharpe

Guitarist Terrence McManus helms a stellar trio on Transcendental Numbers, through six collective concoctions recorded in New York City's The Stone, straddling and blurring the line between textural improvisation and the more traditional sound of guitar and rhythm section. Brooklyn-born McManus is carving a niche for himself on the scene. Having worked with drummer/composer Tyshawn Sorey, ...

All About Jazz needs your support

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, shelter in place and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary effort that will help musicians now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the bottom right video ad). Thank you.
