Bill O'Connell and The Afro Caribbean Ensemble: Wind Off The Hudson
by Dan Bilawsky
Bill O'Connell has had plenty to say with his piano in recent times, basically knocking out a session a year for the Savant imprint. And with an exploration within the solo format, a trip with an augmented trio, and ventures promoting a medium-sized conglomerate of heavy-hitters, he's certainly traversed quite an expanse there. But, as Wind ...
Bill O'Connell: Jazz Latin
by Angelo Leonardi

We're off to Van Gelder's for Blue Note sessions from March 1969, including tracks originally from the Elvin Jones LP The Prime Element with Lee Morgan, George Coleman, and Joe Farrell. Andrea Brachfeld: If Not Now, When?
by Dan Bilawsky

While the mile-a-minute, multi-tasking mentality that dominates in modern society makes it difficult to find said breathing room, musicians occasionally need to take a step back to fuel their artistic impulses. Flutist Andrea Brachfeld ...
Julian Pressley: From The Duke To Ornette In His Own Way
by Victor L. Schermer
Julian Pressley isn't exactly a household name, but it's a name every jazz aficionado should know. When he plays his alto saxophone, ears perk up because he's playing what they came to hear: music that embodies the legacy. Passionate, quick-witted, and full of new ideas, Pressley stands out in the crowd, a genuine original. Yet you ...

Steve Slagle: Dedication
by Dan Bilawsky
Steve Slagle is one of those players that's often overlooked yet hard to forget. Why this sixty-five-year-old saxophonist who's constantly bringing energy and a spirit of exploration to the fore doesn't get the ink or marquees that come to his musical peers ten years his senior or several decades his junior is something of a head-scratcher. ...
