Emanating from a musical hotbed in Pittsburgh; his maternal grandmother performed in minstrel shows, and taught piano; she had graduated cum laude; taught English to Italian immigrants, and taught Mickey & his cousins Barbershop Harmony. Living in the United States since 1980, Argentine-born bassist and composer Pablo Aslan is recognized internationally as one of the leading figures in traditional and contemporary tango. His extensive discography includes Piazzolla in Brooklyn, a jazz-tango tribute to Astor Piazzolla, and Tango Grill. The latter earned him nominations for a Latin Grammy Award (“Best Tango Album”) and a Grammy Award (“Best Latin Jazz Album”). His most recent album of works for bass and string quartet, ConTraBajo (Soundbrush Records) presents him as a soloist and covers an eclectic repertoire ranging from Villa-Lobos and Ellington to original flamenco and tango-inspired compositions

Omer Avital

Since October 1995, The Omer Avital Group has quickly become one of New York's most acclaimed jazz bands. The New York Times said of the group: "Expressive, powerful and well-informed, the sextet doesn't have a weak link".

Avital was born in the small Israeli town of Givataim to parents of Moroccan and Yemenite descent. His formal training began at age 11, when he entered the Givataim Conservatory to study classical guitar. It was upon entering Talma Yalin, Israel's leading High School for the Arts, that Avital's interest switched towards jazz. He switched his focus to the acoustic bass, and soon became the leader of the school's jazz ensemble for which he wrote all the arrangements. During his senior year, at the age of 17, he began playing professionally in various jazz, pop and folk bands, and performed regularly on national television, radio and in numerous jazz festivals.

Prolific bassist/composer Rick McLaughlin performs and records with a number of Boston�s all-star ensembles including the Grammy-nominated Either/Orchestra and the Jazz Composers Alliance Orchestra. Gemini Soul is famous for their eclectic blend of jazz-funk fusion with an electronic element known as "Cyber Jazz." With their motto "Jazz For A New Generation," their sound is reminiscent of Herbie Hancock's Head Hunters movement, the cool bass grooves of Esperanza Spalding and Meshell Ndegeocello, and, at times, the 70s fusion of Miles Davis and Return To Forever. From the San Francisco bay area, now residing in the Washington, D.C. area, Gemini Soul's founding members Andre Ajamu Akinyele and Jon O'Bergh joined forces to release A Cyber Jazz Holiday (2005). Two years later, Gemini Soul released their second offering Liquid Soul (2007), which featured Andrew Foster on percussion
