John Wiitala

John Wiitala has worked with some of the greatest names in jazz, including Joe Henderson, Junior Cook, Charlie Rouse, James Moody, Bud Shank, and Cecil Payne. He has toured with Richie Cole, Arturo Sandoval, Shorty Rogers, and Jessica Williams, and has played at jazz festivals around the world, including Monterey, North Sea, Montreux, Detriot, and JVC/Concord. His recording credits include work with Scott Hamilton, Jessica Williams, Mark Levine, as well as Anton Schwartz.

Rico Belled

Born: May 9, 1970

Rico Belled was born in the Netherlands to a Spanish pianist and his Swiss wife; growing up in such a multicultural environment, he was exposed to many styles of music and started playing piano at age 11, exploring everything from classical music to jazz. At 15 Rico started playing gigs with local bands doing Pop and Blues, slowly getting interested more and more in the bass, which he started really practicing at age 17. In 1989, Studying Electrical Engineering at the TU Delft, Rico met Roy Cruz in The Hague and joined his weekly Sunday night band at ‘De Pater’ exploring the world of Funk and Jazz playing Fender Rhodes

Jamie Ousley

Jamie Ousley has been one of the most in-demand bassists in South Florida since he moved to Miami in the fall of 1998 to attend graduate school in the prestigious Jazz program of the University of Miami. He has since completed his Doctorate of Musical Arts degree in Jazz Bass Performance and continues to perform and teach both locally and internationally.

Being the child of musical parents, Jamie began music at an early age. After learning to play the melody to “Star Wars” on the piano, his parents recognized a talent and enrolled him in Suzuki violin lessons at the age of 5. He continued with violin in the public school orchestra program in Johnson City, Tennessee, and eventually switched to double bass at the age of 12.

Scott Lee

As a college student in Chapel Hill, N.C., Scott Lee switched from a tennis career to a commitment to jazz. Upon finishing college, he dove into music by studying from books, band stand training, and taking lessons from the likes of Charlie Banacas, Dave Holland and Homer Mensch.

Arriving in New York in the late 70’s, one of Lee’s first gigs was touring and recording with Chet Baker. He went on to work with Lee Konitz, Zoot Simms, Al Cohn, Red Rodney, Freddie Hubbard, Kenny Werner, and Joe Lovano. Also, he accompanied many singers such as Nancy Wilson, Chris Conner, Morgana King, Betty Buckley, Helen Merrill, Susannah McCorkle, and Anita O’Day.

In the orchestral world, Scott has shown his versatility by being part of the Metropolitan Opera Guild’s performance of Puchini’s “Gianni Schicci”, to the World Premiere of Charles Ives’ “Universe Symphony”

Darryl Hall

Born: November 1, 1963

Darryl is an American born jazz bassist who has lived in France since 2004. Previously, he was in New York for twelve years where he performed with some of the world’s greatest artists, in many different genres of jazz and African American diaspora music. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, birthplace to many renowned bassists including Stanley Clarke, Jaco Pastorius, Alphonso Johnson, Charles Fambrough, Percy Heath, Jymie Merritt, Christian Mcbride, Arthur Harper, Tyrone Brown, and Victor Bailey.

While in New York, Darryl performed with many jazz luminaries including Mulgrew Miller, Carmen Lundy, Hank Jones, Mary Stallings, Geri Allen, James Williams, Stefon Harris, Regina Carter, Ravi Coltrane, and Robert Glasper, among others

Juan-Carlos Formell

Juan Carlos Formell is a musician that combines the musical traditions of his native Cuba with influences from throughout the Caribbean and Latin America along with the flavor and sophistication of New York, where he has resided for nearly two decades. Internationally recognized as an innovative troubadour, gifted composer, and an inspired multi-instrumentalist, his discography and list of collaborations sets him apart as one of the most accomplished cosmopolitan artists on the scene today.

Raised in Cuba in one of the most prominent families in Cuban music, he represents the fourth generation of musicians in the Formell family. His father, bassist Juan Formell, is the founder and leader of the seminal Cuban group Los Van Van, an ensemble that has been instrumental in defining the sound of Cuban music for the past forty years.

John Menegon

A resident of Upstate New York, Menegon started his career as a jazz bassist in Montreal. After having worked for several years on the Canadian jazz scene with the great guitarists Sonny Greenwich, Mike Gauthier & Nelson Simons, and saxophonists Steve Grossman & Pat LaBarbara, he then went on to hone his skills in NYC in the mid-80s. Since moving to New York City to study Jazz at Long Island University on a full scholarship, John has performed/recorded with Dewey Redman, David “Fathead” Newman, Matt Wilson, Frank Kimbrough, John Hicks, Yoron Israel, Jack DeJohnette, Kenny Burrell, Kenny Barron, Bruce Barth, Paul Bley, Anthony Braxton's Tri-Centric Orchestra, Nick Brignola, Bob Meyer, Jimmy Cobb, Al Foster, Slide Hampton, Sheila Jordan, Lee Konitz, J.R

Mike Pope

Bassist and composer Mike Pope builds significant musical, personal and spiritual bridges between the past, present and future with his third release, Cold Truth, Warm Heart. The new album shows him to be a visionary composer, arranger and bandleader.

The 2014 offering is the first in a decade and establishes a new threshold of leadership for the virtuoso acoustic and electric bassist who has toured extensively with Chick Corea, David Sanborn, Al DiMeola and Bill Bruford, and more recently, Joe Locke and Eldar Djangirov.

Pope’s 2002 album, The Lay of the Land, delivered contemporary straight ahead jazz with help from stellar players: Michael Brecker, Randy Brecker, John Patitucci, Jeff ”Tain” Watts and others. It was warmly received, but tours with other ensembles took up the bulk of his time.

Brendan Clarke

Born: August 11, 1975

Brendan Clarke is an Australian jazz bassist who was born in Brisbane and raised in Canberra where he studied jazz bass at the Canberra School of Music. Since relocating to Sydney in 1999 he has become one of the busiest double bassists on the jazz scene and is known for his sublime sense of swing, commanding sound, groove and musicality on the bass. In 2001 Brendan was the first bass player ever to win the prestigious National Jazz Award at the Wangaratta Jazz Festival. Since then Brendan has played bass on over 40 albums and has appeared at all the major Australian jazz festivals including the Manly Jazz Festival, Thredbo Jazz Festival, Wangaratta festival of Jazz and Blues, Bellingen Jazz Festival, Dubbo Jazz Festival, Freemantle Jazz festival, Glenelg Jazz Festival and the Melbourne International Jazz Festival
