John Webber
For generations, the Midwest has been a fertile ground for producing talented jazz bass players. St. Louis native Jimmy Blanton revolutionized the role of the bass during his years with the Ellington band in the 1930s. Oklahoman Oscar Pettiford co-led the first bebop group (with Dizzy Gillespie) to play on New York City's famed 52nd St. And Ron Carter, born in Michigan, redefined the role of the bass in small group jazz during his tenure with the great Miles Davis Quintet of the 1960s. Sandy Eldred is an internationally acclaimed bassist, composer, producer, and music educator residing in Philadelphia, PA. He is known for his inventiveness and command across music genres. Eldred is the founder of record label, Each and Only, and is a recording artist for Ukrainian record label, LabelWhoAble.
Eldred is the leader of U.S.E. Trio and the Sandy Eldred Trio. He is an active member of Multi Mansions, the Bogdan Gumenyuk Quartet, the Nick Lombardelli Quintet, the Michael Hudson-Casanova Sextet, Playlist, Combo Theory, and Norman David & The Eleventet.
Eldred has held the bass chair for various large ensembles including, Ian O’Beirne’s Slowbern, Jamal Jones’ Bureau of Sonic Wonderland, Matt Gallagher’s Philly Big Band, and the Earl Phillips Big Band. He has performed with the Lars Halle Jazz Orchestra, the South Philly Big Band, and Bobby Zankel and the Warriors of the Wonderful Sound, alongside the late, Muhal Richard Abrams.

Justin Sekelewski is a graduate of the Esther Boyer College of Music at Temple University. Mr. Sekelewski has performed with Terell Stafford, Branford Marsalis, Benny Golson, Joanna Pascale, Jerry Weldon, and many other notable jazz musicians from the Philadelphia area. He has toured nationally and internationally, including appearances at the Hague Jazz Festival and the Detroit Jazz Festival, and performed in such venues as the Kimmel Center, Carnegie Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Chris’ Jazz Cafe and Ortlieb’s Jazzhaus.

As well as performing in a number of one off improvising or contemporary music situations he regularly performs in his long standing string trio Arc (with Sylvia Hallett and Danny Kingshill); The Static Memories, an electronic duo with Dan Powell (on laptop and processed percussion and guitar) , a trio with Ron Caines and James Parsons and the New Interpretations Orchestra. He also creates structured improvisational compositions including The Star Field, The Sleepwalkers (featuring 10 of the leading improvising string players in the UK) and Collective Stories (a commission in Quebec with Grand Groupe Régional d’Improvisation Libérée).
