Russell Scarbrough: Fun Times

Read "Fun Times" reviewed by Jack Bowers

Bandleader Russell Scarbrough has an intriguing motto: “If it's not fun, we're not doing it right!" He also had an intriguing way of recording his debut album, Fun Times, to which an entire review could be devoted. Suffice to say that the individual parts were taped in isolation owing to the Covid pandemic and sent to ...

DO'A Higher Grounds Outside In Music 2022 Polymath composer, guitarist and pianist, DO'A, possesses an embarrassment of talent equal only to the smoky and concealed mystery surrounding her and her provocative moniker. Musician

Georgianna Krieger

Born:

Georgianna Krieger began playing the saxophone at the age of 9 and just kept playing. She spent several formative years growing up in Denton Texas, a fabled jazz town, and attended the Arts Magnet High school at Booker T. Washington in Dallas. Her first musical memory is of Gerry Mulligan, so it’s not surprising that she plays the baritone saxophone in addition to alto and soprano. If you asked her, Georgianna would tell you she sees a direct correlation between gestural drawing, her visual art and jazz improvisation. “The media are quite different” she says, but the conceptual goal: “to explore a fleeting moment”, is the same.
