The Soul Deacons

The Soul Deacons have been around for some time now. Since Brother E. Clayton received the “Vision,” he put the Soul Deacons together in 1999, at the dawn of a new millennium. The vision was to capture the sounds of an era gone by. The trick was to “Deaconize” these songs with a new and contemporary twist, without losing the original R&B feel. This is just what he did and the response has been amazing. The reviews on the first Soul Deacon CD, “Uptown,” have all come in, from around the world, with a rousing “Thumbs Up.” This 7 piece band consists of Mark Esquibel on drums and vocals, Jimmy Martinez on Bass and vocals, Steve “Blueberry” Hill on guitar and vocals, Steve O’Neill on keyboards and vocals, Trey Keepin on tenor sax, Nick Thompson on Baritone and tenor sax and of course, Brother E

Lucky No. 1 Band

With infectious energy, close musical rapport and sharp wit, the music of San Francisco's Lucky No. 1 Band could only have developed over many years of collaboration between old friends. The Lucky No. 1 Band's distinctive blend of jazz and rock creates a rich and vivid aural experience for audiences. First and foremost, the group holds to a high level of spontaneity and interaction. Unexpected bursts of guitar noise, a spare, beautiful saxophone solo, aggressive rock tunes, incredibly soft playing, a killing funk groove, strange trombonistic* moaning- anything is plausible with the band's judicious artistry. The Lucky No

In Black

In Black has been playing together for 4 years. We've played many non-profit events and fund raisers in Sonoma County, and are about to embark upon our Solutions Tour, a tour to Southern California to play great music, have fun, and spread the word about solutions to climate change. The age range of In Black is 14-16, and we love playing live music. We are currently studying body percussion with the incredible Keith Terry of BodySlam and Crosspulse. Octobop

Cool jazz. Images of the early days on the West Coast when new ideas, harmonies, ensemble playing and great improvisation were all happening. Recreating and updating that experience is the mission of Octobop. Performing and promoting the music that began with The Birth of the Cool -- and the innovations of Gerry Mulligan, Chet Baker, Shorty Rogers, Bud Shank, Bob Cooper, Dave Pell, Jimmy Guiffre, and Howard Rumsey among others -- Octobop makes cool jazz hot again.

The musicians of Octobop:
Brian Brockhouse - Bass
Jack Conway - Guitar
Bill Hazzard - Vibes
Roy Kaufmann - Drums
Matt Kesner - Tenor, Alto, Soprano Sax
Geoff Roach- Baritone Sax, Bass Sax, Alto Sax and Alto Flute
Jon Schermer - Trombone
Randy Smith - Trumpet and Flugelhorn

Don Caballero

Some people start bands because they feel they have something to say. Others see band formation as a guaranteed path to free drinks and unprotected sex. When Damon Che formed instrumental crunch-rockers Don Caballero 15 years ago in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he had significantly different plans. “The only plan we had at the time was to come up with music we liked,” he says earnestly. “The reason we ended up the way we did was because, in our estimation, [the music] wasn’t ready yet. The opportunities to record kept coming up, and we didn’t want to waste them, even if we didn’t have our craft entirely up to specifications yet.” Che might have had reservations about the preparedness of the music, but nobody was really prepared for the kind of efficient instrumental urgency DonCab generated

Sentimental Journey Orchestra

Active since:

Through the years, the SJO has played for audiences of all sizes; from a small wedding reception of 75 persons, to a major corporate event with an audience of 5,500. We've played country clubs, hotels, resorts, charity balls, anniversary parties, retirement parties and charity/fundraising society affairs. We've played on the edge of a meadow, a huge convention center, and the historic stage of Atlanta's Fabulous Fox Theatre, and been through the back doors of more hotels than a cheap detective. We do what we do because we love the music and the sound of the Big Band. We are rehearsed once a week, year round by our rehearsal conductor, Rick Bell, a music professional, who earns his bread playing jazz on the Atlanta area scene
