Assembly of Dust
"I feel like my brain is vibrating all day long," says Reid Genauer, the singer/songwriter behind Assembly of Dust, discussing the band's new album. "It's hard to sleep, I'm so excited. I feel like Lex Luthor, or that Mike Myers character, Dr. Evil. I'm sitting here twiddling my thumbs, dreaming up this demonic scheme, getting ready to release this germ on to the world." While "demonic schemes" may not come to mind when you think of Assembly of Dust, Genauer's post-Strangefolk crew since 2002, his band's latest album does have the feeling of something remarkable being unleashed. The record, recorded over two years, showcases Genauer's maturation as a songwriter, as evidenced both by the material and the all-star collaborations that dot all 13 tracks

Bonerama
Even in a city that doesn’t play by the rules, New Orleans’ Bonerama is something different. They can evoke vintage funk, classic rock and free improvisation in the same set; maybe even the same song. Bonerama has been repeatedly recognized by Rolling Stone, hailed as “the ultimate in brass balls” (2005) and praised for their “crushing ensemble riffing, human-feedback shrieks and wah-wah growls” (2007). Bonerama carries the brass-band concept to places unknown; what other brass band could snag an honor for “Best Rock Band” (Big Easy Awards 2007)? As cofounder Mark Mullins puts it, “We thought we could expand what a New Orleans brass band could do

Cordelia
Scandinavian nonet ready with colourful album.
This summer, the orchestra Cordelia releases their second album, entitled «At
the Pink Pony». Just as the self-entitled debut from 2004, the album is filled
with narrative and image-building music, alternating from the sensitive and
intimate to the pompous and florid.
Cordelias debut-album from 2004 recieved great praise by reviewers, who
a.o. called the album «refreshing and convinsing» and «a remarkably
succesfull debut» - and who characterised the groups music as differently as
«avant pop», «cabaret music» and «ambitious string-jazz».
”At the Pink Pony” is a continuation and development of this sound

The Jazz Conceptions Orchestra
The Jazz Conceptions Orchestra, composed of nine young aspiring jazz performers and arrangers, was founded in 2007 by four friends studying jazz at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville. With a vision to pay homage to some of the classic big band repertoire through their own adaptations while writing new arrangements of jazz tunes, the group bridges the gap between the big band and small group sounds.
From its inception at Kokopelli's Jazz Club in Savannah, Georgia, the group was the resident ensemble of the club, performing a series of concerts that included collaboration with Nashville vocalist Annie Sellick

Quartet Offensive
Like the city this Baltimore quintet calls home, Quartet Offensive is a band bursting with musical innovation, experimentation, and character, whose music exists between the cracks of jazz, rock, and the avant-garde. It is a band whose unique style freely crosses genre boundaries, and one that succeeds in presenting an honest musical vision. Originally a quartet of John Dierker (bass clarinet), Matt Frazao (guitar, Adam Hopkins (bass), and Nathan Ellman-Bell (drums), QO later added Eric Trudel (saxophone). Quartet Offensive has drawn both local and national attention, having been featured on NPR's "The Signal," as well as being hailed as "a lineup of musicians nothing short of virtuosic...First-class improvisation

Uberphonics
In the spring of 2006, several improvised jam sessions would cultivate what has become one of Nashville's most innovative and eclectic musical acts. Überphonics is not simply another instrumental trio to be lumped in with the typical "jam band" or "jazz combo" pseudonyms. Instead, the band strides to achieve a fresh sound that is accessible and pleasing to the everyday listener as well as the more discerning musician. Adding to the Überphonics experience, the absence of a vocalist leaves the interpretation of the music to the listener. Born and raised in three separate parts of the country, Matt Jaggers (guitar), Kyle Greene (bass) and Carl Roberts III (drums), sought their destiny in the likely of musical havens, Nashville, TN

About The Funk Brothers

The Funk Brothers
The Funk Brothers played on more number 1 singles than any other band in history. Sadly, their status as sidemen for Motown Records largely consigned these unsung pioneers to the forgotten corners of the annals of popular music, although a 2002 documentary Standing In The Shadows Of Motown went some way to redressing the balance. They were instrumental in fashioning the trademark Motown sound, a fact the astute Berry Gordy (Motown owner) realized by keeping most of the musicians under contract for the period between 1959 and 1972 when the company was based in Detroit. In what was called Hitsville USA, the Funk Brothers worked with all the leading stars of America's premier black music label, a role call including such giants as the Miracles, the Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, and the Supremes

Meanderthals
London's Idjut Boys (Dan Tyler & Conrad McConnell) and Rune Lindbæk of Oslo are Meanderthals. As longtime friends and fans of each other’s music they have discussed the idea of working together in a musical context for years and in 2008, they finally began to make those ideas a reality. Throughout the year they traveled back and forth between Oslo and London to create their debut album Desire Lines (Smalltown Supersound, 2009).
A meanderthal is a theory by Matthew Tiessen about a human that is always in the way of others. Whether it be the person on the wrong side of the escalator, the person walking slowly, the person bicycling on the pavement, it is essentially the person that stops the flow of urban daily life
