Mothguts
Mothguts is an avant garde/grindcore/jazz type band from NJ and Brooklyn. Formed in 2005, Mothguts is a a quartet featuring Anthony Ware - alto sax, Ben Ross - drums, Mike Noordzy - bass, and Chris Welcome - guitar. They've toured much of the US and have self released 4 cd's (including a christmas album), released a split 12 inch vinyl on kitchen dweller records (U.K), and have two new cd's out, 08854 with guest trumpeter Herb Robertson (tigerasylum records) and Mothguts 3 (thor's rubber hammer). They're influences include Last Exit, Black Sabbath, Anthony Braxton, Painkiller, Naked City, Derek Bailey, Pantera, Alice in Chains, the Velvet Underground etc.

The Sound of Kyushu
The Sound of Kyushu is a NYC based guitar-bass jazz duo. Since they passed the Music Under New York annual audition in 2006 and obtained the official license to perform as a member of MUNY, they are providing high quality jazz music at many major spots in subway stations in New York City. The leader, Maki Watanabe is a versatile upright bassist who is proficient in various styles from jazz to classical with the academic background as well as the creativity. His bass lines create steady but strong swing rhythms, which supports the ensemble as a combustion engine. He also plays melodies and improvises with bowing as an individual solo instrument. The guitarist, Masao Onitsuka is a veteran who is a well-rounded and experienced performer for 30 years

In 1928, at the young age of 18, the Belgian-born ‘manouche’ gypsy guitarist, Django Reinhardt accidentally suffered from a horrific caravan fire that resulted in the loss of use of both the 3rd and 4th fingers of his left hand. In spite of the accident, Reinhardt was able to overcome his debilitating handicap to become one of the world’s most influential jazz guitarists and enigmatic musicians of all time. Upon meeting at the Quebec Conservatory of Music in 1994, Byron Mikaloff (ex One Ton and Bunka Busta) and Christian Roberge, quickly became friends whom would continue to participate in several music projects together

Aardvark Jazz Orchestra

Founded in 1973, The Aardvark Jazz Orchestra has been a force in the international jazz scene for more than 50 years. Aardvark is one of the longest-running large jazz ensembles in the world. The band is well known for its wide-ranging shows, from new music by founder/director Mark Harvey to classics and rarities by Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Mary Lou Williams, Miles Davis, John Coltrane and other jazz legends. Aardvark has given premieres of more than 175 works for jazz orchestra, performs widely, and appears on 16 CDs, including 10 discs from Leo Records, one of the world’s leading adventuresome music labels. The Worst Pop Band Ever

With influences ranging from Wayne Shorter to Levon Helm to J Dilla, The Worst Pop Band Ever is a Toronto based quintet that tries to combine a love of improvisational jazz and indie pop. Featuring multiple award winners (and losers), the members of the WPBE have worked with a who's who of Canadian and international musicians, including Ernie Watts, Brad Goode, Feist, Blue Rodeo, Chantal Kreviazuk, Laila Biali, Holly Cole, Kevin Clarke and the Shuffle Demons. Together, whether it be blending acoustic bass with turntables or analog synths with the saxophone, the WPBE sets out to twist and bend both originals and covers, straddling genres and butting heads with expectation. They have played festivals and packed clubs throughout North America from IAJE to NXNE; St. John’s to Seattle; NYC to Taipei. They were called “highlights of the festival ” at the 2012 TD Canada Trust Toronto Jazz Festival by the festival’s own website, were showcased in Canadian Musician Magazine and shortlisted in NOW Toronto’s Soundclash competition. Their music has also been used for film and videos for CBC, the National Film Board, the UN, the Toronto Public Library and even Disney. Allaboutjazz.com described their live album, “Sometimes Things Go Wrong” recorded live at the Cellar in Vancouver, as “…music for people, whether they dig jazz or not…a tight band playing with substance and feeling for an appreciative audience.” (Mark Turner, July 2012).

TRIO 3(lake/workman/cyrille)/BIO TRIO 3 is a band where Music is the Leader. This unconventional collaboration of internationally- recognized jazz masters, Oliver Lake (multi- reeds), Reggie Workman (bass) and Andrew Cyrille (drums), formed to centralize the members creative energies, promoting a single governing principle - Organized Improvisation. Each is a distinct soloist but it’s definitely an unadulterated group-based effort. Open to the infinite possibilities, TRIO 3 mixes and explores different colors, transversing the whole vocabulary of jazz, taking the music to the future.
Collectively, TRIO 3 spans over 130 years of jazz history having played with pivotal artists of jazz and modern music including John Coltrane, Mary Lou Williams, Herbie Mann, Art Blakey, The World Saxophone Quartet, Lou Reed, Richard Muhal Abrams, Cecil Taylor and more
