Desde Cero

Desde Cero was founded with the purpose of providing an outlet for youth to freely express themselves without the fear of outside persecution or influence. This group instilled a place for the re-implementation of what were to be lost elements of the Afro-Puerto Rican cultural genre known as Bomba. A key task for Desde Cero was to preserve these elements but also leave room for evolution and growth. The vision was to have a youthful group bringing a fresh look and sound to this genre but also maintaining and respecting the fundamentals. Harmonious choruses and trance like rhythm with ancient influence powers the spiritual vibe that this group emanates. The members of this group have grown to be family and in their presence on stage this speaks for itself

Insub Meta Orchestra

Active since:

The Insub Meta orchestra (IMO) is a large ensemble gathered around the experimental and electroacoustic practice. It was founded in 2010 by the Cyril Bondi and d’incise duo. It consists of about fifty permanent members that form the thirty international musicians present at each concert. Born from questionings on improvisation in a large group, the IMO built with time a strong collective and typical background where the individual gesture get lost in the production of global sonic states. Thus subtle matters emerge and interact with silence. The notions of improvisation or composition become confused in a constant research of a specific development in the context of this orchestra

Vazytouille

By allowing everything, the Vazytouille, big orchestra of 14 musicians from the collective Zoone Libre, not only to cite or draw on the vast musical heritage past and present, but slowly invent a form and language, thus proving its sole ambition: to be a live music. The originality of this band lies in several aspects. The orchestra is very rich and allows many marriages of timbres, each more amazing than others. We find within the band small independent formations: string quartet, trio rock, a cappella vocal ensemble. Faced with such orchestral diversity, the direction of Vazytouille is simple: no limit

Lightsweetcrude

The ragas of North India are the musical 'fossil fuel' for this cutting edge Toronto-based instrumental project. This ancient fuel has been injected into the modern 'engine' of psychedelic laptop rock, and the group's extended improvisations and ambient excursions are constantly pushing the music's miles-per-gallon potential. This blend of Indian Classical music with modern sounds and production certainly evokes the experimental spirit of '60s and '70s psychedelic culture, as do the oil-based liquid light projections that frame the band's performances.... lightsweetcrude's Listen To The Colour began as a studio project helmed by Toronto producer/engineer Jason Steidman (Canadian Brass, Sarah Slean, Brubeck and Braid), whose first significant encounter with Indian music began a journey and quest for knowledge that has lasted many years, and is ongoing

The Battle of Santiago

(Toronto, On) - The Battle of Santiago is a performance battle between strong Latin rhythms and deeply cultured Canadian influences, pushed into an improvisational post-Afro-Cuban- rock theatre. The members of The Battle of Santiago have backed up a diverse array of artists - from Oscar Peterson and Tito Puente to I Mother Earth, and have schooled at the top jazz schools in Canada along with being in-demand producers. These guys know music. The Battle of Santiago began in Spring 2010, and it was apparent from the start that this was not going to be your usual band. By combining bass, saxophone, flute and percussion, the band’s philosophy is to capture each musicians own personal sound and style; with complete freedom to express themselves through individual and improvisational creativity allowing an organic growth and natural arrangement of each composition. The seeds of The Battle of Santiago were planted in the early 2000’s, when Michael Owen (bass), Michael Butler (saxophone) and Daniel Mansilla (lead percussion), performed, in different combinations with Avenue One and All I See Is Red
