MODUS FACTOR is a Toronto, Canada based modern electric groove trio led by in-demand session drummer CHRIS LESSO and features multiple National Jazz Award-winning trumpet player BROWNMAN ALI and Juno- winning Sisters Euclid bassist IAN DE SOUZA. The trio's tagline is "electro-ambient improvisational bedlam", which befits their live show well. BUT, interestingly, this debut recording "The Picasso Zone" is less about mayhem, and more about nuance. Deep interaction and collective musical interplay is the name of the game on "The Picasso Zone". With more than 75% of the recording being improvised, this album is an outstanding, high-minded example of the musical richness that can come from 3 kindred artists when they all create together and move in a singular direction as improvisers. By making enough room for each other, the creations presented on this recording are greater than the sum of the individual parts.

Gisele

Active since:
Founded in 2012, Gisèle is halfway netween modern instrumental jazz and progressive rock. The first album, Roger, was released in December 2013. A few EPs followed, a Christmas and even a Halloween album were released before the second album, Aldo, was launched in 2016. With varied influences such as Chris Potter, Kneebody, King Crimson, The Thing, and more recently, numerous hip hop artists, Gisèle's tunes stand out with contrasting sections. The precise, odd-time overdriven guitar riffs are well-balanced with free improvisation sections. The saxophone can pull off tasteful solos imediately followed by apocalyptic screaming with effects. Lil' Ed & The Blues Imperials

In Chicago, a city overflowing with unrivaled blues talent, world-renowned Lil’ Ed & The Blues Imperials have been standing tall for almost 30 years. The band’s big sound, fueled by Lil’ Ed’s gloriously rollicking slide work and deep blues string bending, along with his rough-edged, soulful vocals, is as real and hard-hitting as Chicago blues gets. The Chicago Sun-Times says, “Lil’ Ed & The Blues Imperials are the hottest purveyors of bottleneck boogie to come out of Chicago since Hound Dog Taylor.” Lil’ Ed Williams comes to the blues naturally. His uncle, Chicago slide guitar king and master songwriter J.B

Chat Noir

For the past 12 years, Chat Noir has been a piano-bass-drums trio that has performed original compositions unconfined by any etiquettes of genre. Throughout the evolution of its style, the band has at its core remained devoted to a true collective mindset rather than any leader/sideman structure. Grounded in the roots of friendship, Chat Noir continues to freely explore the outer limits of what it can be.

Snaggle

Active since:
Often been described by media as “Canada’s answer to Snarky Puppy” Snaggle is a 6 piece Toronto-based jazz-funk ensemble which has a unique sound that can be likened to a cross between ‘Miles Davis’ and ‘Rage Against the Machine’. This newest addition to the Browntasauras Records artist roster takes influences from a wide variety of musical sources including funk, rock, metal, and classical and contextualizes them within the improvisational and spontaneous elements of the jazz tradition. As a result the band has developed an exploratory and melodically driven sound that incorporates primal groove qualities more commonly associated with pop and rock. The driving force behind Snaggle has always been one of genre-blurring, cross-pollinated musical experimentation and exploration
