Ben Hedquist

Ben Hedquist is the clinical assistant professor of jazz bass at Arizona State University. He holds a doctorate in double bass performance from ASU where he studied under double bass virtuoso Catalin Rotaru. Hedquist is the education program coordinator at The Nash, Phoenix’s jazz performance and education center. As a double bassist, Hedquist is known for his versatility and feels at home playing classical or jazz music. As a classical musician, he has performed with the West Valley Symphony, Phoenix Opera, and as Principal Bassist for the Musica Nova Orchestra. Hedquist has also performed in chamber concerts with the ASU String Faculty as part of the Stradivarius Concert Series at the Musical Instrument Museum, with violinist Mark Fewer (McGill University) as part of the Lotus Land Project and performs solo recitals throughout the Phoenix Metropolitan area

Dave Halverson is a guitarist/composer based in Santa Barbara, CA. He is also a founding member of the
jazz/art rock band Trance Lucid. To date, he has released twelve albums of instrumental
music — five as a solo artist, five with Trance Lucid, and two with Sea Rocket Jasmine.
The music ranges from jazz/progressive rock, electronic rock, and avant rock, to textural mood pieces, solo
pieces, and more experimental works. Inspirations include random noises, found sound, visual art, science,
technology, and shortwave radio experiments.

Dan Rosenboom
Born:
Dan Rosenboom (b. May 7, 1982) is an internationally recognized trumpet player, composer, and producer. He is known as a prolific member of the Los Angeles creative music scene, having released more than 25 albums of original music as a solo artist and bandleader and has supported over 60 artists across over 100 releases on his label, Orenda Records. Rosenboom is a proud member of the Hollywood Studio Symphony and has recorded for over 200 major film and television soundtracks with such notable composers as John Williams, Danny Elfman, James Newton Howard, Alan Silvestri, Alexandre Desplat, and many more. He has also performed with such elite ensembles as the LA Philharmonic, the LA Chamber Orchestra, and the LA Opera. His own music eschews genre distinctions and draws from such disparate influences as Black American Music, metal and experimental rock, contemporary classical music, folk music from the Balkans, and a broad range of progressive music from the avant-garde. He studied at the Eastman School of Music, CalArts, and UCLA, where he earned advanced degrees in music. The Los Angeles Times has called Dan Rosenboom “a musician dedicated to exploration and expression, regardless of anyone’s imagined boundaries,” and “a phenomenon.”

Tumi Árnason

Tumi Árnason is an Icelandic saxophonist, improviser & composer influenced by and drawing from the creative transcendence and open-mindedness of the avant garde, free jazz and improvised music. His 2019 record, ALLT ER ÓMÆLIÐ, was the first duo release from saxophonist Tumi Árnason and drummer Magnús Trygvason Eliassen (ADHD). The record, inspired by Greek proto-philosopher Anaximanders’ ideas about conceptual abstraction, contains a set of free improvisations and open compositions revolving around the idea of the indefinite; the nature of improvisation, structures that exist but are only hinted at, the space between sounds. Tumi Árnason's latest release is Hlýnun (2021), a piece that addresses our current existential threat, the climate crisis, through free jazz and experimental improvisation

Born in Guadalajara, Mexico, Tom began playing at an early age. His music lies in the intersection of conceptual composition and soulful improvisation. His work overlaps many genres such as jazz, free improvisation and the blues. Since 2008 he has been active in the jazz and improvisational music scene of Mexico, USA and Central America, working with musicans such as Gustavo Nandayapa, Brian Allen, Hans Glawischnig, Blair Latham, Gabriel Puentes, Tyler Mitchell, Pablo Aguirre, Elliott Levin, Adonis Rose and many others. From 2012 to 2018 he was a faculty member at the Jazz and popular music program at UNICACH in Tuxtla Gutierrez Chiapas
