Alan Ferber

Known internationally as a virtuoso jazz trombonist, Alan also shines as a bandleader. His current project on Fresh Sound New Talent (Alan Ferber Nonet, “Scenes From An Exit Row”) beautifully displays his unique ability to effectively lead an ensemble through an array of intricate compositions while consistently delivering imaginative solo improvisations. Comprised of some of New York City’s most compelling young players, “Ferber’s arrangements bring out the best of the members of his group, who are inspired by their musical surroundings and alternately play as one…” (Budd Kopman, AAJNY) The Alan Ferber Nonet is in constant pursuit of finding new directions in the jazz idiom

Charles Pillow Ensemble: Chamber Jazz

Read "Chamber Jazz" reviewed by Jack Bowers

Chamber Jazz, alto saxophonist Charles Pillow's eighth recording as leader of his ensemble, is a generally sedate but remarkably engaging series of tone poems that combine contemporary jazz with elements of classical music to produce a hybrid that underlines what is most harmonious and charming in each genre. Chamber Jazz is what it says, and chamber ...

Mike Holober: Hiding Out

Read "Hiding Out" reviewed by Angelo Leonardi

Sara Gazarek: Thirsty Ghost

Read "Thirsty Ghost" reviewed by Angelo Leonardi

All About Jazz needs your support

Donate
All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, shelter in place and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary effort that will help musicians now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the bottom right video ad). Thank you.
