Chris Lightcap: Superette
Chris Lightcap, contrabassista e bassista di lungo corso con collaborazioni che spaziano da Marc Ribot a Cecil Taylor, passando per Anthony Braxton, Regina Carter e molti altri (ha all'attivo oltre una settantina di incisioni) si rigetta nella mischia con i neonati Superette, band che allinea due chitarristi elettrici, Jonathan Goldberger e Curtis Hasselbring, il batterista Dan Rieser e due super ospiti: il "magnifico" John Medeski all'Hammond B3 e all'organo Wuriltzer e {Nels Cline}}, già chitarrista dei Wilco.

Risultato: un disco rock, schietto, lucido e talmente bello che sembra un prodotto d'altri tempi. Registrato ai mitici Sear Sound di New York, raccoglie 11 tracce "guitar oriented" dense di "pennate" e accordi trascinanti che fanno venire in mente le gesta di gruppi storici come Quicksilver Messenger Service, Wishbone Ash, Dire Straits o i Crazy Horse di Neil Young.
Tutto è giocato sul brillante interplay tra Goldberger (canale destro) e Hasselbring (canale sinistro) che è continuamente sorretto da una ritmica potente che spazia da surf rock, funk e scansioni africane. In tutto, otto originali e tre cover di brani di Neil Young, Link Wray e Skip Pence, che lasciano, davvero, senza fiato. I brani migliori? Uno su tutti ”Far Away Planet”: crea dipendenza e allinea un Medeski in grande spolvero.
